33cl bottle. Vigorous pour, somewhat hazy deep brown liquid topped with some dense tan foam that fades to a thin layer leaving behind some very nice lacing. Aroma is a big blast of dark malts, a good bit of toffee and some nice almost piney hops. Flavor falls a little short of the aroma, was expecting much more malt and got a lot more hop and a little hint of alcohol. Damn smooth mouthfeel for something pushing 9%.

Jul 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep rubt brown with a beige head. Malty aroma with carmael and licorice, as well as some earthy notes. Medium body. Flavor is again very much caramel malt and licorice, with some toasty, soy and brown sugar as well. Nice.

Jul 6, 2008 Finally a high-gravity and highly hopped German bier. My love for Uerige’s other biers notwithstanding, this bier is fantastic Darker than the normal Alts, the aroma is malty and alcoholic. Make sure you don’t drink this too cold.

Jul 4, 2008 Bottle. Interesting shape and jazz. Pours a amber copper body. Aroma/flavor is sweet chocolate malt, nuttiness, dark fruit, raisin. A solid beer but pricey even at 8.5%

Jun 29, 2008 A clear dark brown beer with a thick dissipating light moka head. A nice aroma of licorice, dried dark fruits and warming alcohol. In mouth, loads of licorice, warming alcohol, burned coffee beans, lingering in mouth. Rich bodied. Shared with Probstk. Thanks Karl for sharing this with me.

Jun 21, 2008 33cl bottle, a very interesting flip top bottle- pours with a light carbonation, swamp water hazy brown, very slight head/lacing. Very ripe dark fruit/ prune aroma, smells candy sweet. Taste is ripe dark fruits/ prune/ dried fruit, slightest hop presence, trace of molasses, thick malt body. Alcohol stays hidden.This beer needs a food pairing to keep the palate from being tired of it all.
