COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Original review date 10/20/2008... Swingtop POPS from one of the funkiest bottles going. 11.2 oz. into a Reidel Extreme Riesling glass. 2 fingers of rye bread head topping a huge root beer body with a little carbonation and a solid seam. Quite impressive. A little metal off the top but this goes away quickly. Sweet doppelbock/sarsparilla scent. Slight pepper notes accompany this complex concoction. Not your babydaddy’s alt. Thick, syrupy ups...malt is huge, malty, thick and formidable. Backbone has depth with a peanutty/caramel feel to it. Hearty malt profile is extremely soothing - virtually no alcohol burn and finish is strong and solid. Definitely a sipper. Easily drinkable but works best if savoring in small doses. Well-done.

Bottle. Pours deep brown with reddish hues and creamy beige head. Aroma of dried fruits, light roast, caramel and herbal hops. Sweet, with flavors of prunes, raisins, caramel, soy sauce, a bit salty, strong herbal bitterness, alcoholic warmth down the throat. Medium-bodied, sticky mouthfeel. To be drunk slowly.

Bottle 330ml. Clear deep amber with medium creamy beige head. Aroma of karambola with notes of raisin and caramel. Complex flavor of sweetish caramel and raisin with notes of karambola and herbs, followed by nice fruity sourness, long lasting sour-sweet sticky finish. Moderate carbonation, oily texture, full-bodied. Rich and pleasant.

Bottle, thank potjebier! Deep brown pour with bubbles slowly rising through the viscous liquid to form a thin very creamy off white head. Aroma is intensely matly, rich barley sugar notes, very malty, light toast, definitely some english barleywine notes in here, toffee, caramel. Taste is sweet, lightly boozy. Palate is med-heavy bodied, good carb. Nice.

Fabi095 (4) - FINLAND - MAR 3, 2015 does not count
The color is clear medium amber and there is virtually no head. The aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, light alcoholic, dried dark fruits. The flavor is light heavy sweet with a long duration. The body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is flat. Ompher is a fag. Aftertaste of dried fig/fag

Darkbrown and unfitered, firm head. Smells malty, dried fig, black bread. On the palate liquorice, dark bread, sweet, mouthfilling. Very concentrated beer.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown, near-black murky body with a large creamy, long-lasting off-white head. Nose is mild raisins, caramel, bread dough, grains and hints of licorice and soft herbs. Taste is licorice, caramel, herbs, cough syrup, grains and hints of dark syrup, toffee and brown sugar. Full, creamy body, soft to medium carbonation. Lovely stuff; kind of like a crossover between an imperial stout and a barley wine with a strong herbal profile. Highly enjoyable sipper; weird that the German market has marginalized such a treat over the years. Glad to have it available in Norway.

ABS (642) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - FEB 15, 2015
Bottle from Vinmonopolet’s BU. Pours quite dark brown, with a dense, two centimeter thick, beige head. Prune, dried fruit and lots of alcohol nose. Sweet. Almost no aftertaste. Thick body, soft carbonation. Quite dry ending. Prune, caramel, dried fruit, fruitcake and some hints of herbs. Alcohol is not very well hidden. Closer to an Imperial Stout than an Albier in my opinion. Ending is a bit abrupt.
