COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Uerige DoppelSticke might just be "Germany's interpretation of a barley-wine", ie a third definition next to England's "malt-driven" idea {such as JW Lees Vintage Harvest Ale} and America's "hop-heavy" version {such as Sierra Nevada's BigFoot}. OG - 1085; IBU - 75; Ingredients; Hops:Spalt Spalter, Hallertauer Perle, Spalt Hallertauer; Malts: Pilsner malt, caramel malt, roasted malt

Original review date 10/20/2008... Swingtop POPS from one of the funkiest bottles going. 11.2 oz. into a Reidel Extreme Riesling glass. 2 fingers of rye bread head topping a huge root beer body with a little carbonation and a solid seam. Quite impressive. A little metal off the top but this goes away quickly. Sweet doppelbock/sarsparilla scent. Slight pepper notes accompany this complex concoction. Not your babydaddy’s alt. Thick, syrupy ups...malt is huge, malty, thick and formidable. Backbone has depth with a peanutty/caramel feel to it. Hearty malt profile is extremely soothing - virtually no alcohol burn and finish is strong and solid. Definitely a sipper. Easily drinkable but works best if savoring in small doses. Well-done.

Shared by KyotoLefty at the Hanshin Seed Event. An opaque almost muddy brown pour. Great nose of candied plum, port, sweet dark fruits. Medium to light bodied. The taste is malty, boozy, sweet caramel, dark pitted fruits. A bit of that tannic oaky quality to it. Very interesting.

Bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours a hazy brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, toffee, nuts, raisins, spicy notes, toasted malts, some more general bitterness to the finish. Good, not great.

11.2 oz bottle poured into straight stemmed glass. Pours a nice, dark, chestnut brown with no head at all - just a tiny patch of foam. Some particles can be seen floating in the brew. Aromas are very interesting: some deep roasted/caramel malts, resinous hops, ripe grapes, a tad of alcohol. Taste is rather sweet, but well "contained" by the brew’s hoppy character. Body is medium-full, texture pretty oily/slick, and carbonation almost flat. Finish is rather bitter, and medium in lenght. There is also, however, a presence of a post-taste which is also bitter and which lasts pretty long in fact. Overall: a fantastic brew as well as discovery for me. I had never drank a Doppelsticke before, and I guess that if I ever drink any others, this one will have set the bar. And that bar is pretty high!

After looking for this beer off and on for three years I finally have it. The year on the bottle is difficult to read but I believe this is a 2012 bottle. Bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a muddy brown with small white foam. Aroma is wood, booze, and caramel. Flavor is boozey on first sip to the back of the tongue followed by oak a presence of hops and roasted/sweet malts. I’m a big fan, this is definitely a sipping beer.

A- Pours a deep brownish ruby color with a small, fizzy, brown head. S- Chocolate, burnt caramel, toast, hints of raisin. T- Caramel, hints of deep, dark, maltiness, fig, raisin, plum. M- Thick with ample carbonation. D- Really enjoyed this brew. Much more body and character than the typical alt. Highly recommended.

2/V/14 - 33cl bottle @ ThirstyBird’s place - bottled: VII/2011, BB: VI/2012 (2014-469) Thanks to ThirstyBird for sharing the bottle!

Dark brown beer, small creamy beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: lots of chocolate, some mocha, dried fruits, little dusty, cocoa powder, alcohol, vanilla notes, bit ages and oxidized, but nothing negative about that. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: lots of chocolate, dried fruits, prunes, bit hoppy, caramel, sweet, some mocha. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, dark chocolate, some vanilla, raisins, pruntes, bit dusty, alcohol, caramel, sweet ending. Developed into a really beautiful and lovely beer, holy cow!

I will be goddamned. Pours very dark beautiful ruby with a thick khaki dome that settles slowly and leaves some waves of foamy lace. Nose involves deep malty sweetness, brown sugar, dark fruit, vinous beauty, some light earthy and spicy hops, caramelized sugar, port wine, toasted malt, alky vapes. Excellently sweet, bitter enough to offer an attempt at balance. Full bodied, quite oily, viscous, rich, softer carb, with a drying toasty voluptuous finish. A bit oxidized? Maybe. A bit chunky? Sure. Best beer I’ve ever fucking had? You bet your honky ass.

Bottle with swingtop 0,33ltr: Dark brown colored brew with an slightly burning feel in the mouth and an sweet bitter taste. Load of caramel hints and a touch of roasted malts. The heaviest Altbier? Why not.
