COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a lazing off-white head. The aroma is sweet with notes of metal and honey. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, honey, and metal, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle, Wurstkuche. Pours amber-brown with a large white head. Aroma is very grassy and herbal, suggesting significant European hops (Saaz, Hallertau) in this brew. Flavor starts with herbs and earthiness upfront, moving nimbly towards a balanced mid-body of malt and dry bitterness. Finish leans dry and semisweet. A solid altbier.

Pours a cloudy brown color with a sticky tan head that leaves plenty of lacing. Sticky(e) and thick sweet caramel and malts aroma. Pretty bitter and malty. Palate is thick and sticky. Creamy texture to it. This is like what a German IPA would taste like. The only bad thing about this beer is the price.

Bottle from City Beer in SF. Pours dark brown with a large, lasting off-white head. Malty aroma with caramel and brown sugar. Flavor is lots of caramel malt, oak, very slight fruity notes, and mild hops. Smooth palate, medium-full body. Good for the style.

On tap at the brickstore. Pours a clean brown color with a big off white head that fades fast. Aromas of big malt, caramel, and bread. As it warms the texture of this thing gets really grainy and chewy malt. Pretty dry with a hint of bittering hops on the finish. The story here though is the malt and grain experience which is well worth the time and money on this one.

Dark amber or medium brown, with a low head. Aroma of sherry, well aged, a bit of fruit, especially dark fruit, and hops. Very sherry-like flavor, with cherries, caramel, and good hops. Tastes oaky and well aged. Much like a British old ale. Very well hopped, with a dry finish of hops and sherry. Nice, but not as good as the regular that I had fresh. The sherry-like aged flavor and aroma are a little too much. A very interesting strong alt. quite different indeed from the regular one. Rich and nice.

Bottle 50cl. w. swing top @ home.
[ Trade by Koelschtrinker ]. Clear medium cola brown color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, sweet malt, sugar, pepper, light alcohol. Flavor is light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, and a light peppery - alcoholic burn in the finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily to creamy, carbonation is soft, finsh feel is light alcoholic. [20090311]

11.2 oz flip top bottle. Poured into a kolsch glass (which may be sacrilege), got a big slightly off white head which receded quickly with some lacing. The color is a murky brown, and this beer is really easy to gulp down quickly. A nice bready malt taste with a little hoppiness and drying finish.
