COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

33cL bottle. Vigorous pour yields a hazy brown liquid with fairly thick tan foam that fades rapidly yet leaves decent lacing. Rich toffee like aroma, little bit of metallic earhy hoppiness in there also. Big chewy maltiness with a very dry earthy hop finish. Good stuff.

330ml Bottle: Very malty aroma with notes of dark fruits, herbs, hazelnut, and caramel. Poured brown with a hint of amber in color and a medium-sized, dense, tan head that lasted throughout. Excellent lacing. Cloudy. Sparkling. Lots of tiny particles. Flavor is lightly bitter. Tastes of herbs, grass, toasted malts, salt, and nuts. Medium body. Slightly thin, sticky texture. Soft to average carbonation. Malty, salty, grassy finish.

Poured into a cylinder glass. Body is burnt umber in color and clear. Head is light tan, big and rocky. The glass helps the retention which leaves lots of nice lacing. Aroma is mainly sweet doughy malt with some fruitiness. Taste is nice and subtle. Nuts and toffee emerge from the malt, while a leafy tannic hop bitterness tickles the tongue on the finish. Endlessly toasty and mellow. Carbonation is modest but gets the job done. This beer is exceptionally smooth. The light bitterness in the finish tempts you into the next sip. The subtle sweetness and refreshing hop zest make this beer outlandishly drinkable. A tad high in alcohol to be sessionable but the flavor is perfect to that end. A very good beer and a great introduction into the altbier style. I’ll definitely be coming back to this one.

33 cl bottle on 1/22/2008. Nearly clear deep orange/mahogany under a frothy medium light tan head. Toffee like aroma with hints of pine, spice, and vanilla. Medium body and carbonation, mild astringency that leaves a dry palate. Up front bitterness over a backdrop of caramel sweetness that remains well hidden. Finish is long and mildly bitter. A toned down version of its big brother, Doppelsticke, but very good in its own right.

Bottle from manchester winter beer fest, thanks to ronnie. Dated 11/01-21/02? Aroma was quite minimal, nutty malts, bittering hop and notes of alcohol. Taste is similar quite a bit of bittering hop, as you expect from these chaps the hoppiest of all the alts, drinkable enough. However not a scratch on the normal alt. This was bottled which is almost a fake rating for a alt, it should over ever be had from wooden cask in dusseldorf.

bubbleflubber (1206) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - JAN 13, 2008
Murky, muddy dark-brown pour with a small white cap. Lots of mixed fruits and yeast, leading to a bready malt aroma. Subtle and light, this has a malt contingency mixed with some woody notes and a small earthen hop to finish the pull. Caramel malts are integrated, again subtly, without being "hidden". Woody afternotes show this brew’s complexity from beginning to finish. The oily mouthfeel makes the pull highly drinkable, and would make for a good session brew.

33cl Swingtop. Great fresh fruit and bread crust aroma. Lots of vineyard air, rich caramels, and toast. Pours a rather clouded sienna, with pale fringes and soap of off-white. Flavor highlights the caramelization process, but also immediately brings in good showings of pear brandy, almonds, light oxidation, and brilliant shining grassy hops. An interesting balance. Yeast works well here. A nice intermingling all around of all aspects. Great dry hop tooth over good caramel work and a nice yeast and alcohol signature. Dangerously drinkable and loaded with flavor. A fantastic beer.

Pours a hazy light orange brown color with huge froathy billowing offwhite head. Aroma is earthy woodsy hops. Flavor is malty slightly bittersweet, earthy oaky hops, some doughiness, decently dry and hoppy bitter finish. Overall, complex yet simple beer, definitely worth a try.
