COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Bottle. Pours with an amber color and a huge head with excellent lacing. Yes the Germans know how to give head. In any case this is from my hometown so I am biased. It has a nice malty aromas and great flavors that evolve when the beer warms up a bit. Initial bitterness is replaced by a bit more sweetness, I can discern figs and almonds. Finishes off again with some bitter malts. Head and shoulders over the standard issue alt.

Bottle, nice deep brown color with a thin tan head. Aromas of noble hops with a toasted malt background. Similar flavor, malty and hoppy all the same. Very smooth and crisp. A very nice beer.

This one smells good. The aroma has toffee, caramel, and toasted malt, wild yeast, and hops. The appearance is red brown with a bubbly two finger head. The flavor however is not that good. It has the aroma elements but also cardboard and vinegar. The off flavors give it a stale sourness. Heck maybe it is a true "old ale" in the stale sense. The palate is sticky. Overall it’s a good smelling beer that has a problem with some sourness.

I got this bottle on my last visit to the brewey about a month ago. The beer was even better when fresher, because the hop aromas fade quickly. Anyway: Toda’s sample (about three weeks after the best before date) still had a lot of hoppyness, certainly more than most German beers. Here are my tasting notes: dark copper, extremely citric and peppery hop-nose with some caramel, very full-bodied but no apparent sweetness, powerful noble hop bitterness with a hint of roasted walnut

Bottle: Cloudy brown with an off white head. Aroma, raisins, some sweet malts, caramel, very rich. Flavor, sweet caramel, brown sugar, some fruits, a floral character, and some spice. I really should drink this more often.

Nice malty essence. Spicy hops presence with dusty grain. Really nice altbier aroma, with a bit of smoke and broth. Simple and pure. Dark amber clear with creamy rocky off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with medium carbonation. Smooth drinking. Starts with nice maltiness, rich medium roast with caramelized sweetness. Bready and dusty with dry nutty-sweet finish. Nice hops bitterness with a bit of floral spicyness. After is dry and mildly nutty sweet. I could drink this every day.
