Pours deep clear bronze with a thick, off-white head. Bread, caramel and grassy hops in the nose. Nice foundation of heavy caramel, toffee, then comes a little pear followed by a prominent noble hop presence. Bitter hop finish which lingers for awhile. Bold and flavorful. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and subtle carbonation. Overall, pretty enjoyable.

Finally a gold nugget plucked from my d.b.a. jaunt in NYC. Yummy, yeasty, bitter-style aroma. Great embossed latch bottle and woody brown beer. Buttery, woody, a bit cereal. Very enjoyable. Medium long woody finish. Adequately bittered with lots of character.

12oz bottle from lee’s liquor: pours a deep red with very silky smooth looking foam, but not much of it. some aromas going on i can’t quite identify, but good. fantastic flavor from the dark malts and hops, they hit the nail right on the head. powerful flavor, but not at all overpowering and a very tasty drink and a very distinct aftertaste. i’ll be getting more of this.. plus i like the bottles. ;)

Bottle date 31-01. Sweet fermented aroma. Cloudy brown with small head. Flavor is heavy dose of alcohol and sweet but mellows out conciderably by the finish with a carmelized crystalation of sorts. Sugary and sweet aftertaste and cool bottle. Good brew.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2006 An enjoyable alt, although the alcohol was a tad more noticeable than I would have preferred. Poured a nice clear orange-brown with a moderate head that laced quite well. Aroma was somewhat hoppy (not floral, though) with a buttery smell. Flavor was sweet (molasses or brown sugar works for me, I couldn’t place it on my own) with a nice hoppy finish. The mouthfeel is a little heavier than I expected but refreshing (low carbonation). August ’06 update: only available on-site in October and Jan or February, two times a year.

Bigger, brawner version of the classic Dusseldorf altbier. Like alt, this beer has fantastic hop aroma, clean maltiness, and a zesty and snappy hop bite. Uerige Sticke pours to a beautiful, bright, deep copper color, with a thick white head, and a good carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of good herbal/grassy hop aromas, and aromas of toast and nuts. The palate is smooth and round, with clean, smooth toasty and nutty malt flavor. Uerige Sticke finishes with more smooth malt up front, then ends with a zesty burst of herbal/grassy hop bittereness that lingers. I love this beer style, and Uerige to me is the bench mark example of sticke and alt. A must try beer for anyone who loves altbier.
