A fantastic Altbier. It is a medium/dark and is abundant with rich malty flavors. Make sure you get it fresh though, it deteriorates fast.

She was one year old if she was a hundred - a beer that stares time in the face and says, "To hell with thee!" An altbier if ever I’ve had one. And I have...thrice! This beer has no place in the low countries, it is as German as apple pie. But place it before a podium and slap a microphone in its hands and this beer will deliver a stump speech! It boasts as much head as the headless horseman, but twice as irreverent. Not to mention, the Eurige Sticke is very much the product of modern science, and has even been known to cure instances of bum leg. Picture the ethereal haze of the midlands at dusk, you’ve captured its essence. Flavors of light berries, filbert nuts, circus peanuts, tousled hair, green iris, and Raid insecticide - and not in an unpleasant way. That is to say this beer is very unpleasant. But the kind of unpleasance that jostles you from your complacent ways and prompts you to travel the world! Ken Kesey, in his wildest hallucinations, could not have concocted a more studious beverage. Summarized into a single thought: it is how it was.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2011 Pours out mudder-brown coloured. A small head that sticks pretty decent to the glass, The smell is malts , citrus and spices, the hops gets trough also. The taste is decent, earthy, spices malts and hops get trough pretty hard.A bit weird how the sweetness and dry-earth combine. Sticks nice in the mount. Full of taste.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ttutony (509) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 23, 2011
Deep brown in the glass with a thick creamy head. Aroma of earthy, spicy noble hops and cereal grains. Great balance on the palate with a surprising bitter note. Great beer.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 FatPhil (5970) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - JAN 11, 2011
330ml bottle (Bierkompass.de)
6 RIch brown mushroomy aroma. A little savoury
4 Lovely deep hazy brown, small tight light-beige head.
6 Massive grainy husky barky taste - coming in at the malt levels of a doppelbock, but without quite the same level of sweetness. Maybe a touch yeasty, as I let a bit of the sediment come over. Some gentle hops too, but they can’t compete with the malts.
3 Full palate, decent carbonation. Finish carries both the barky aspects from the taste and the gentle bitterness. Feels like it might be a little drying, but doesn’t end up that way in the end, it’s not too sweet or to resiny.
13 Probably my first real Dusseldorf Alt (after 5000+ beers), and maybe I should have aclimatised myself to the style with a normal strength one first. And after this, I’m well up for that - bring’em on. I’d quite happily have this again after having a range of other alts to rerate in context.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mile (1221) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 11, 2011
Bottle. Dark amber, hazy, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate malty and caramel sweetish aroma, some roastiness and hoppyness, light alcohol. Body is average, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and alcohol. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, some alcohol and light caramel. Nice hoppy aroma, but flavor lacks the hoppyness – quite a lot of sweet malty alcohol in the flavor/finish.
