COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Sampled at SBWF-10 Golden. Large, white head. Notes of cereal. Soft and smooth.

After a year’s storage in cellar, the famous Uerige Sticke will be rated now! Apparently they have screwed down the alcohol content, because my version has only 6.0%. The beer in glass is a typical german Altbier, nut brown beer with a large, fine and very durable cream crown. The smell is revealed bitter roasted malt with chocolate-caramel aromas. The beer starts heavily roasted malt and pleasantly bitter and very spicy, slightly bitter chocolaty tones play in the background. By the further course, the hop bomb explodes more and more, and the beer reminds me on a good American IPA. The finish gets more chocolaty, and there, the hops are joining a long finish. Handle an absolute top beer. Fresh it wouldn’t probably taste better than the "one-year stored version"!

SBWF 2010. Orange/amber color, offwhite head. Malty aroma, bready, some toffee notes. Malty flavor with some grassy hops.

A little flat out of the bottle - the old school stopper didn’t hold carbonation during the eight months of cellaring. Nice red color, no head (not surprising). No off tastes, not as full-flavored as expected, given the other comments - probably a bottle past its prime. Rating adjusted to account for that fact.

0.33 l bottle. Slightly hazy reddish brown color. Toffeish, berryish, grassy and slightly sweaty and resiny hops as well as raspberry. Biscuity, resiny, grassy, toffeish, berryish and bitter flavor with raspberry. Fairly good drinkability. Not as bitter as I thought. Perhaps I like the standard Uerige Alt more.

Pours a brown/orange tint. Lots of malt in the aroma. Some sweetness at first. Followed by a grassy malt taste with a touch of bitterness. A bit of a lighter altbier.

Dark red-brown colored with cloudy appearance, little yellow head. Chocolaty aroma with nice piny hop notes, dry one. Medium bodied. Flavor is even more hopped with piny-sticky tone, some toffee here too. Aftertaste is strongly bitter still.

Bottle from bierkompass.de. Nice bottle! Poured ruby color with a medium white head. Aroma is nutty, very malty with some toffee. Flavor is caramel, fruity hops and caramel. Incredibly tasty, so full of flavor. Wish the bottle would have been bigger.
