COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Pours a one-finger white head that quickly fades leaving no lace. Slightly cloudy amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose seems to be caramel. Starts and finishes with a balance of malts and hops but there is some sweetness hard to describe this - maybe a combination of a barley wine and a sweet stout for flavor, but it doesn’t look anything like a stout. $4 for a 330ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma.

Bottle shared by <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?U target=blank> beerhugger, thanks Steve. Copper in colour, off-white head (good retention), some lace. The aroma is malty (cookies, caramel), some citrus hops and some smoke. The flavour was malty (cookies, bready, caramel), slightly sweet, cirtus hops, nutty. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a lingering hop bite, dry. Quite nice.

Small offwhite head, fair retention and a goodly amount of stringy, spotty lace. Clear, chestnut appearence. Nose of medium sweet malts, grainy. Body is medium with a slight astringency. Dry maltiness on the palate with a hint of berries, faint metallic notes, light roast and tobacco notes. Finish is dry with that damn astringency showing up again.

11.2 ounce bottle from By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a very dark amber body with a fluffy thin whitish head. Raisin, dark fruit, creamy, malty sweet, sticky sticke. Some brown sugar and fruity hops in the finish. Lots of caramel all the way through. Quite good.

Bottle: Cloudy brown with an off white head. Aroma, raisins, some sweet malts, caramel, very rich. Flavor, sweet caramel, brown sugar, some fruits, a floral character, and some spice. I really should drink this more often.

[bottle from Bierkompass.de] Potent caramel toffee aroma with some brown sugar and significant grapefruit hops. Hazy dark bronze covered by a thin, off-white sheet. Spicy caramel flavour with some pleasant sourness and strong bitterness that is in good balance with the sugary caramel/toffee. Notes of bitter grapefruit and dried fruit. Medium body, moderate carbonation, moderately bitter finish.

Bottle. Dark hazy brown pour with a bit of floating sediment. The date indicated this bottle was at least a year old. Fluffy off white head and great lacing. German hops and malty caramel on the nose and tongue. Dirty/earthy notes. Bitter finish. Not as sweet as I expected. Certainly quite different from the Doppel Sticke.
