4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Frank (1966) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 2, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2010 Dark amber w/ a tight head that diminishes to a nice ring. Very nicely balanced flavor--a deep munich malt richness balanced w/ a floral nobel hop aroma and a good dash of bitterness. Delectably quaffable and an elegant example of the style. Neato bottle too.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MrRomero (1959) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JUL 22, 2007
11.2 oz bottle, bottled on 11/25/06 I assume. Poured a murky light brown with some orange notes. Small off white head that disappeared quickly. Big malt aroma with some caramel. Flavor is mostly malt with some caramel and a small touch of chocolate. Maybe a little coffee too. Bitter finish. Good.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 frankenkitty (1953) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - AUG 18, 2005
Bottled on 25.10. Code 11 26
I have to admit, I’m a bit of a "bottle whore" and that’s what attracted me to this beer... a well crafted and unique swing-top with sparse labels and a healthy dose of raised lettering in the glass, including a line of braille at the bottom! Excellent!
Appearance was an almost-mahogany body, slightly hazed with a creamy, little head. Aromas were well malted with raisin, honey & caramel over grains and earthiness... an overall impression of a sweet breakfast cereal. Nicely balanced flavors with sweet malts proving dominance. Smooth and slightly thick on the tongue with a touch of alcohol at the end that made me smile. Quite delicious. Hoping to find a bigger bottle.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MilkmanDan (1943) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - JUN 1, 2004
Darker than I expected, tea-colored, dark brown-red. Head is light brown. Good malty nose, nice toffee, bit of raisin character as well. Nice palate, full and creamy, not quite enough carbonation but still works quite well in the mouth. Great malty character, bit nutty, lots of toffee and butterscotch. Hops come on at end, good toasty bitters. Darn good stuff.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 ABUSEDGOAT (1937) - California, USA - FEB 7, 2006
Bottled Jan 31, and it wasn’t 2006. I think this one might have passed. Copper body with almost no head. Aroma has malty notes of caramel, bread and also some grass. Not impressive at all though, seems timid. Flavor is even worse, flat, stale, just... blah. I’ll rerate it if I can find a fresh bottle, it’s probably pretty good.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Crosling (1861) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - MAY 31, 2005
Red-orange with a small head. Earthy & herbaceous hops in the nose, with hints of wet cardboard, medicine, cherries, black licorice and mild biscuit. Initially watery and light palate, until things catch up on the mid, blasting off with caramel and tofee flavors, which linger with hints of biscuits, dough, potato skins and fruits. Fairly thin body. Not that flavorful. I hope this isn’t the best Alt in the world.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 joet (1851) - Fulton, California, USA - APR 9, 2006
Excellent packaging, nice dark semieffervescent liquid in the glass, looks good, brown turbinado sugar in the nose, touch of toffee, sweet carmels on the tongue balanced something tart and cidery. Interesting. It’s not real lively or hoppy or smokey but still plain, obvious and curious.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 tjthresh (1840) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - JUL 1, 2005
Bottled on 31.01. Am I to assume that is 2005? Poured into my Fankenheim Alt glass. Crystal clear copper/brown with a dirty white cap. Toasted whole grain breads and caramel. Nice scent of Spalt hops. Malt sweetness and hop bitterness it very good. Full bodied.
