COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Carnival comes but once a year - and you can only enjoy Sticke beer at Uerige twice a year. It contains more malt and hops and has a higher alcoholic content than normal Altbier. And our guests appreciate it! In earlier days it used to be whispered hand over mouth that Uerige was serving Sticke again because the master brewer had portioned the ingredients too generously. With today's fully-automated operation, this could not happen. So Sticke beer is brewed intentionally - and this certainly doesn't negatively effect either its quality or taste.

The two dates every year are always the same. The third Tuesday in January and October are the two Sticke days.

Dark red with some bits in solution and a nice beige head. Quality German caramel malt and floral hop aroma with notes of brown bread and raisin. A little tart and a bit thin. The flavor is not as good as the aroma would suggest. It has noticeable hop flavor and bitterness. Not bad but I fear it has not traveled well.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2010 Bottle. Complex and highly drinkable masterpiece! The aroma has got some overpowering malts, and also more hops than i would have expected. Complex taste of dark, dark syrup and mighty mighty malt. The aftertaste has got some citrus hops and a smoked malt bitterness. Well balanced and smooth.

Clear amber color with a rapidly diminishing head. The aroma is mostly hoppy and the flavor is likewise bitter and lightly hoppy. It is hard to see what makes this beer such a big dea., though maybe its the top beer in its style class.

Poured into a cylinder glass. Body is burnt umber in color and clear. Head is light tan, big and rocky. The glass helps the retention which leaves lots of nice lacing. Aroma is mainly sweet doughy malt with some fruitiness. Taste is nice and subtle. Nuts and toffee emerge from the malt, while a leafy tannic hop bitterness tickles the tongue on the finish. Endlessly toasty and mellow. Carbonation is modest but gets the job done. This beer is exceptionally smooth. The light bitterness in the finish tempts you into the next sip. The subtle sweetness and refreshing hop zest make this beer outlandishly drinkable. A tad high in alcohol to be sessionable but the flavor is perfect to that end. A very good beer and a great introduction into the altbier style. I’ll definitely be coming back to this one.

UPDATED: JUL 27, 2007 I enjoyed this one. Translucent brown with a moderate head. Aroma of noble hops, maybe Saaz and/or Hallertau and rich caramelly malt. Slightly bitter. Delicious. Mouthfeel is bubbly and light. Finish is slight dry. Great beer!

On tap at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, Il. Properly served in an altbier glass. Dark amber hue with a diminishing, white head and thick, solid lacing. The aroma had a touch of yeast, floral, and light fruit notes. The flavor also adds a nice malt and dryness combo. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean, with lively carbonation.

Bottle. Beautiful noble hop aroma, touch of acetone (wtf?) but not distracting. I guess being an organic chemist has its privileges. Strong deep caramel malt flavor. Quite dry. Well balanced and very nice.
