3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Pours clear dark amber with a medium, creamy off-white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is spicy, herbal and pine hops with biscuit and straw malt and a clean lager character. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness, supporting malt and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
330ml bottle (Bierkompass.de)
6 RIch brown mushroomy aroma. A little savoury
4 Lovely deep hazy brown, small tight light-beige head.
6 Massive grainy husky barky taste - coming in at the malt levels of a doppelbock, but without quite the same level of sweetness. Maybe a touch yeasty, as I let a bit of the sediment come over. Some gentle hops too, but they can’t compete with the malts.
3 Full palate, decent carbonation. Finish carries both the barky aspects from the taste and the gentle bitterness. Feels like it might be a little drying, but doesn’t end up that way in the end, it’s not too sweet or to resiny.
13 Probably my first real Dusseldorf Alt (after 5000+ beers), and maybe I should have aclimatised myself to the style with a normal strength one first. And after this, I’m well up for that - bring’em on. I’d quite happily have this again after having a range of other alts to rerate in context.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle... Clear copper ale with a mid-sized, frothy, off-white head. Good retention. Malty, herbal aroma... toffee, dried fruits and medicinal notes with a touch of licorice. Malty flavor, but very well-bittered for good balance. Full-bodied and deeply creamy with moderate carbonation. Lingering, bitter finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle @ home. Somewhat hazy, orangish amber appearance with a big foamy, tan head. Notably more hoppy than other Altbiers. Medium piney hops and a sweet caramel malty nose. Earthy, piney hoppy flavor on a quite sweet caramel malty flavor with some nuttiness. Much more aggressive flavor than the typical Uerige Alt. Somewhat hoppy bitter, dry finish. My least favorite of the Uerige Alt, Doppel Sticke, and this one.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2012 A gem among the german "ales", dark ruby coloured; extremely full bodied, sweetish in the beginning, a "warm welcome" from the brewer; astonishingly easy to drink for a beer of this strength (6,5%) ! Superbly rounded with a long, long hoppy aftertaste, caused by umbelled hops. Served only on two days a year. Worth a journey !
Re-rated: (Sticke-Day 18/10/05) One of the most pefect brews You can find in Europe !!!!!!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very drinkable, but in gulps owing to signfiicant carbonation. Good hop aroma, colour. Tasty spice and good bitterness. Nutty toasty and fruit worked nice. Somewhat dry and malty finish. This was a hard beer to track down and must have again. Thanks ClarkVV.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 19, 2005 (bottle and tap at the brewpub, 6%ABV) Clear amber colour with a foamy slightly off-white medium head. Malty, liquorice-spicy and slightly fruity aroma with a hoppy and cinnamon background. Initial sweet maltiness combines very well with the herbal and flowery hoppiness. Extremely well balanced sweet malty and hopbitter finish. What a gem !!!!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Gravity cask at Blind Tiger. Deep brown beer with a very cloudy appearance. Aroma is very herbal and earthy. Lots of noble, herbal/spicy hops. Flavour is also hoppy with fresh cut wood, herbs and a light mintiness. Lingering herbal bitterness. Undertones of earthy grainy malts. Really tasty.
