UPDATED: DEC 14, 2004 Bottled. Nut brown. Intensely roasty, sweet, and thick rich maltiness. Notes of licorice and ash, richly hoppy with really bitter finish.

Medium brown with a touch of haze, beige creamy head, good lacing. Malt and maple, earthy with floral hopping. Nearly a chewey malt with an earthy floral taste. Rich and thick, very tasty!

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2010 Wow- this is not what I expected. I kinda thought the sticke was going to be a lot more malty than thier regular alt. Not the case- as this one was really really hoppy. Nice deep deep copper with a minimal off white head. Aroma is actually more towards a very earthy and herbal noble hop aroma than towards malt. Flavors are nicely balanced between a full munich malt flavor and a nice dry herbal hoppy flavor. Finishes moderately bitter as well. Really nicely done, but for me I’d rather have the original.

On tap at the Bavarian Lodge, Lisle, Il. Properly served in an altbier glass. Dark amber hue with a diminishing, white head and thick, solid lacing. The aroma had a touch of yeast, floral, and light fruit notes. The flavor also adds a nice malt and dryness combo. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean, with lively carbonation.

Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. A bottle pretty rare to buy in this area..an in areas that are not Düsseldorph I guess. Very caracteristic long necked bottle with flip top. Looks pretty awsome, and beeing one of the best in its style I kind of havee been looking forward to dick in to this Altbeer. The flip top goes off with a dimp flimp and moisty aroma is filling the air. The por is light brown - dark kobber with a thick off white allmost orange head. The nose is first of all malty but with some notes like of dried fruit like apricots and some orange peel. Some non-fruity hops are present too. The taste is quite huge again with the malty base in focus. There is a long lasting bitter hoppyness that stays way in to the finish. Some spices makes me think of certain danish christmas beers. Cloves, anis and orange-peel and a touch of alcohol. Palate is nice and round with a creamy touch. I am quite surprised that this actually does a decent job. Have been slaming the sparkling cripy fresh altbeers at both uerige and Schlüssel I would expected a downer with the bottled versions...but this is also the sticke versie... a little bit more of everything. On tap at the Oldsmar Tap House (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown hazy color with a frothy white head. Aroma is malty and sweet with notes of hops, phenol, honey and slight notes of raisins and ripe dark fruit. Flavor is also sweet and malty with notes of ripe dark fruit, raisins, hints of prunes, caramel, and spice. Generally medium body with a sweet and malty finish.

Le liquide a une couleur cuivrée. La belle petite tête mousseuse manque de ténacité. Le nez détecte des notes grillées, du malt caramélisé et quelques fruits avec des effluves peu intenses de houblons nobles. Au goût, les saveurs des houblons sont plus affirmées et permettent une amertume agréablement et justement touchée par la douceur des céréales maltées. En bouche, le liquide a un corps moyen avec une effervescence normale et une texture douce. La finale me semble bien adéquate, entre le malt doux et l’amertume des houblons. Bonne bière.

Ett öl som jag fick på Ölbutikken efter att ha frågat efter en Stikke rotade han fram den ängst bak i disken. Doft av säd, jäst och blommor. Frisk, blommig, jästig, opastöriserad, rund och mjuk och en av mina favoriter under kvällen med tysk öl hemma hos Ulf.
