3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle, shared at RBAG Summer Session 2012. Wow, big bottle! Very dark brown, light brown head of average size. Aroma is full-on dark roast coffee, not especially sweet. The flavour is intense coffee as well, with sweet undertones, but not quite making the vanilla alarm go off in my head. Can a 10% ABV beer be thin? This one seems to be a little. Finish is bitter, and missing some of the lovely Nelson Sauvin aromatics that I love (I think the coffee bullied it out of the picture). Still, nice enough that I’m glad I tried it! Plus, once I peel this label off I can use it as a bed sheet!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A real coffee-porter, lots of dry coffee and no vanilla, almost like having a mug of coffee in the morning. Almost black, has a light brown head, medium duration. Aroma is roasted coffee, and faint sweet malts. Notes of yeast too. Flavor is light sweet and lots of dry coffee. Moderate bitter finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
1500ml labelled as "Hans Across The Water" bottle pours a dark reddish brown color when held to the light, otherwise looks virtually black, but pours with a 2 finger light beige head that leaves some exceptional lacing. Aroma is dark chocolate and coffee with some surprising flowery notes. Taste is extremely well balanced between the chocolate malty sweetness and the light coffee bitterness with some notes of citrus. Medium to heavy bodied with some decent carbonation.
This is probably one of the best Imperial Porters that I have tried to date. Truly exceptional.

Bottløe bought in Copenhagen.
Black beer, thin head. Unsurprisingly coffee and vanilla nose.
Coffee flavour, too, a bit too smooth and silky, perhaps. Glowing alcohol in the background.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at BA in Örebro. It poured a pitch black liquid without a head. Coffee and chocolate on the nose. Vanilla, coffee and chocolate taste, boozey aftertaste. I wonder why they didn’t make an Imperial Stout with vanilla instead and just skipped the added coffee. A bit to shifty beer, different tastes pulling in different directions and didn’t quite mix. But still a very drinkable beer.

Bottle from thewolf, thanks! Almost black. Malt, coffee and vanilla in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor, somewhat tart, with hints of coffee and vanilla. Citrus. Slightly alcoholic. Well balanced. Good enough beer, maybe just a bit onedimensional.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle courtesy of Stefan (non-RB). Pours very dark reddish brown, almost black, with a small frothy brownish beige head that quickly dissipates while leaving some trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with heavily roasted malts, charred wood, dark roast coffee, green chili, alcohol, dark rye bread, liquorice root, caraway and hints of vanilla. Taste is slowly sweet and bitter with heavily roasted malts, dark roast coffee, resinous wood, pumpernickel, liquorice root, pine and hints of vanilla, alcohol and soy sauce. Mouthfeel is tiny round, slightly dry, resinous and medium bodied. Finish is sweet, mbitter and tiny sour with roasted malts, coffee, green chili, resinous wood, vanilla and dark bread. Quite tasty but a bit rough around the edges.
