English: It’s a beer that’s been thought about for quite some time – actually since the brewers first visit to Sherbrooke Liquor in Edmonton, AB, Canada a few years back, and finally I did it – I manned up and did it! After a whole freaking day of brewing coffee for this beer I can truly say it is Craft. If not devoted to the product who in their right mind would brew hundreds of litres of coffee for a beer? The result is a big and bold smooth Porter with discrete vanilla and coffee notes.
Hops: Magnum, Nelson Sauvin Malts: Pilsner, Caramel, Rye, Oats, Chocolate, Black, Vanilla and coffee.

Bottle, labelled as Hans Across the Water @ RBAG - From the RBAG Commemorative Glass - Pours opaque black, with a thin tan head and spotty lacing. Nose is vanilla, light roast, nuts, cashews especially, some light coffee and what I might guess at being vanilla, but not without it being on the label. Flavours of nutty vanilla (there it is!), light fudge, toasted marshmallow finish. Solid stuff.

Very dark brown to black color, smallish but nice dark brown head. Sweet, roasted, coffee, green pepper corns, alcohol scent, smells very nice indeed! Sweet, rich, alcohol, grains, wort bread, somewhat hints of salt and minerals, toffee, roasted taste. Long lingering sweet exciting aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel tot he spritzy side. Medium to medium high, though well balanced, bitterness. Even though the alcohol does come through, it’s well hidden. Nice!

Tap @ Voldby. pours a darkbrown nearly black colour with brownish head. aromanotes are coffee-like, vanilla and maybe a hint of liqourice. The taste is very dry, coffee notes, dark malts, but no vanilla at all.. a bit dissapointing.

Bottle, shared at RBAG Summer Session 2012. Wow, big bottle! Very dark brown, light brown head of average size. Aroma is full-on dark roast coffee, not especially sweet. The flavour is intense coffee as well, with sweet undertones, but not quite making the vanilla alarm go off in my head. Can a 10% ABV beer be thin? This one seems to be a little. Finish is bitter, and missing some of the lovely Nelson Sauvin aromatics that I love (I think the coffee bullied it out of the picture). Still, nice enough that I’m glad I tried it! Plus, once I peel this label off I can use it as a bed sheet!
