COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: It’s a beer that’s been thought about for quite some time – actually since the brewers first visit to Sherbrooke Liquor in Edmonton, AB, Canada a few years back, and finally I did it – I manned up and did it! After a whole freaking day of brewing coffee for this beer I can truly say it is Craft. If not devoted to the product who in their right mind would brew hundreds of litres of coffee for a beer? The result is a big and bold smooth Porter with discrete vanilla and coffee notes.
Hops: Magnum, Nelson Sauvin Malts: Pilsner, Caramel, Rye, Oats, Chocolate, Black, Vanilla and coffee.

Bottle bought in Copenhagen, pours black with a beige head, nose is coffee, a little vanilla and a faint plummy tartness. Big treacley coffee body, dry, liquorice and a faint saltiness, the vanilla is quite subtle, coming out in the aftertaste aong with more black liquorice and dry-bitter burnt caramel. Great stuff!

Bottle. Pitch black with a huge tanned head for a 10 % beer!!! Wauw! Aroma: You simply get smashed in the head with coffee! Some sweetness (probably from the vanilla) supports the coffee well and results in a very creamy, cappuccino, dark and sweet chocolate feeling. Still, you get some heavy dark malts to support all this in the background. Great aroma! The taste follows the nose closely. The coffee taste is almost a citrus coffee, which works pretty well. Absolutely no hint of the 10 % ABV - impressing. Mouthfeel is interesting: Starts out medium, but then the big, bitter coffee part simply takes over your entire mouth which gives a bigger mouthfeel. The aftertaste stays for ever with this intense coffee bitterness. For some reason, this is probably the most drinkable 10% ABV beer I’ve ever had. It’s a good beer, but I feel this is too one dimensional in some way. Lots of coffee and sweetness, but that’s it. Good beer, but not fantastic beer.

Wonderful aromas of dark malt and maybe a little dryness. The taste is wonderful, of coffee, chocolate and roasted malt. Long after taste that is not too dry luckily. Enjoyable beer! Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Ar: roasty, coffee, ash, licorice, smoke, chocolate, alcohol, woody, Smoked meat, rather dry, would have expected the vanilla to be there. Ap: black colour, big Brown head, lacing. T: heavy bitterness, light sweetness, lightly sour, lots of saltiness, big, big flavour, lots of alcohol, heavy roastiness, lots of coffee, ash, tar, but no vanilla that I can detect. P: full body, creamy, soft carbonation, astringent, long bitter and warming finish. T: solid, but I’m not a fan.

Bottle split @ CBC Clerkenwell. Cheers to Leighton. The pour’s brown with a modest off-white head. The nose is accurately described by the beer’s name. Plenty of roast coffee. Sweet vanilla. A bit of chocolate syrup. The taste is similar. Solid balance between the sweet and bitter, earthy flavors. Medium body, fine carbonation. Overall, not a bad effort. Straightforward, tasty.

33 cl bottle from systembolaget. Not much aroma. Really nice taste though, as the name foretells there is a lot of coffe and vanilla, all balanced by a nice bitterness. The body is real nice and thick with a nice level of carbonation. The finish is also full of vanilla and coffe with a bit of sweetnes resembing coffe liqeur. The finish is also acompined accompanied with a nice alcoholic warmth. Conclusion: A nice imperial porter that lives up to its name
