3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
New Beer Distributors, NY 355ml ($3): Pours a mahogany color with a creamy beige head. Aroma is a bit strange. Aside of the normal massive amount of malt, there is a particular hop character, which I can’t decide whether it is fruity or floral or both, but probably more the former. Taste is rather bitter, with very little sweetness. Nice hoppy aftertaste. Medium-heavy body. Pretty good barley wine.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from beersofeurope.com. Cloudy, muddy chocolate brown. Smells strongly, sickly sweet aroma of hoppy syrup. Taste is fruit cake, sultanas, with a strongly bitter malt tang finish. Warming. Strong alcohol. Perhaps too thin but very nice all the same.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Deep amber with medium light brown head. Aroma dark sugars, booze, faint citrus hops. Full body. Alcohol is prominent but mostly manages to stay out of the way. Just on the acceptable side of syrupy. Quite sweet at first but balances out eventually. Toffee, dates, candied citrus are there. Lots of malt. Pretty good.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled on 6/1/2012. My first thought was this is very reminiscent of Unita's Duhbe, with simply more malt concentration and less bitter hops. Don't get me wrong, I love Duhbe.. Just being making an association... I'm guessing a similar malt/hop bill, with simply a different proportion and similar yeast. I may be wrong, as I'm not a brewer, though I can't deny what I taste. Rich, honeyed malted and light caramel, with mildly roasted malt, wheat bread and caramelized stonefruit. Think honeyed, caramalized, dried apricots, on wheat.. with a slightly bitter tinge.. Good.. Though I prefer the additional bitter hops of Duhbe, if i'm paying for the malt/hop bill.

Looked fine. Tasted fine. Solid little barley wine. It was pretty fresh which is how I like my barley with some more hop kick. It didn’t suck.
