First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV. Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name “barley wine” refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

Deep deep amber/brown with lasting white foam. Aromas detectable from a long way away. Dark fruits, blackberry jam, buttered toast, nuts. Taste is big, bold, boozy. Sharp caramel and jam opening, moving to toffee/cereal bittersweet finish. Bitter throughout preventing the sweetness from becoming overpowering. An "American" barley wine I would say.

Pours a clear brown with a tan head. Pretty thin looking. Aromas of caramel, some light floral notes. Taste is sweet and lightly bitter. Flavors of toffee, caramel, pine sap. More bitter as it warms. Alcohol is barely noticeable. Thin. Very English style. Solid.

@ The Ginger Man à Manhattan. En fût, Un superbe barley wine intense, sucré avec une forte dose de houblon. On se rapproche du sucre d’orge tellement c’est intense. Les houblons amères sont piquants sur la langue. Une bière extrême tant au nez qu’en bouche.

The aroma from this fine Barley Wine is just awesome. Sweet and heavy caramels together with fruit garden notes, toffee, hops and a sturdy maltbase. I can smell on this baby forever. The taste is just great, smooth toffee with almost over ripe dark fruits more than ready to be picked. The hops join in and I’m just stunned. It’s a little sticky, but not too much. This one is perfectly balanced, and the only thing that is bad, is that it’s out of stock (in Sweden).

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer & Beyond, Tel Aviv. Clear medium brown with low beige head. Sweet aroma, prune, woody, yeasty, faint onion notes, licorice (and maybe even a salted fish?). Sweet prune flavor, woody, some herbs, a bit hoppy, grassy, some caramel. Sticky bitter-sweet aftertaste. Medium carbonation, oily texture, full-bodied.
