Appearance is a somewhat darkend amber with a light foam head. Tastes of roasted nuts, big fruits and some malt. The finish leaves a spicey, fruity aftertaste. The texture is thin and crisp. Overall, This brew is a nice mixture of flavors with strong fruits and malts. I’d give this an A- rating.

Enjoyable beer. The aroma is great. Sweet and toasted malts with a bit of piney hops. Flavor follows. Overall not mind blowing but pretty good
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 GothGargoyle (571) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 2, 2013
Clear medium brown with an off white head. Aroma is honey, grapes, brown sugar, floral hops. Slightly sticky mouthfeel, initially sweet on the palate then the hop bitterness kicks in. Taste is candied citrus peel, caramel, dried apricots, dried mango, hint of spruce in the aftertaste.

Pours a rusty brown with a lite fluffy head. The nose is hops, raisin, and spiced fruit cake. The pallet starts with hoppy astringent caramel followed by some oak and finishes with a burnt caramel ( cream brûlée).

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CLevar (373) - Minnesota, USA - APR 24, 2013
Bottle pour. Muddy dark amber, with a light tan head and sticky lacing. Aroma is subdued but complex, with bready malt, light pine and citrus hops, brown sugar. Taste is more malt, caramel and crystal, with a warming finish with nice pine resin hops lingering. Slightly chalky, but it works. Carbonation is perhaps a touch high, oddly effervescent. I like it.

An excellent barleywine from an excellent brewery. Notes of dark fruit, licorice, and alcohol. Maintains an amazing amount of balance considering its hoppiness and high abv.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 dbarnold (1073) - Bethesda, Maryland, USA - APR 11, 2013
Upper tier barleywine in my opinion. Well balanced, not overly hoppy. Also, lots of fruits, cherry, berry, grape, not just big and sweet, but with complexity. Retains a lot of drinkability for the abv. Better warm...

Draft to taster. Looks good for the style; a slightly hazy brown with foamy light beige head. Smells and tastes solid; sweet and malty with notes of hops, caramel, and toffee. Nice on the palate too. A solid example of the style.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DrSilverworm (2733) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 8, 2013
12oz bottle. Seventeenth Anniversary edition, bottled 07/19/11. A small amount of foam materializes as I pop the cap, but not enough to spill over the top. Totally hazy murky copper-red / brown color. Good thin khaki head, that persists. Leaves little bits of lace. Bigger body. More dry texture overall. Crisp, lighter carbonation. Not as smooth or mellow as I’d prefer. Spicy, herbal, lightly earthy hops.. Spicy bite in the finish. Bitter taste overall, light sweet. Some dark fruit, caramel malt. Doesn’t seem like age has done any good for it. Kind of an astringent bitter taste, not smooth at all. Light alcohol warmth in the finish. Big flavor, but taste is pretty disappointing overall. Curious to try this fresh.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jcos (1176) - Maryland, USA - APR 8, 2013
Location/Date:Bottle split with Dave on 4/7/2013 during S3E2 of GoT.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown opaque.
Aroma: Aroma of caramel, light booze.
Taste: Light medium hop bitterness, medium caramel.
Palate:Medium body, lingering aftertaste of booze..
Summary: Drank side by side with Duck Rabbit Barleywine, both are well made, can’t really tell which I prefer. This one is good, has somewhat better nose and taste, but the appearance/palate slightly worse.
