4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle at the Semi-Final Tasting, my place in London. Thanks to Jack, I think. Pours clear amber with a strong, off-white head. Big nose of caramel, ripe fruit, bready malts, toffee and a bit of pine. Nice flavor with heavy, sweet bread, resinous pine, ripe and semi-dark fruits, caramel. Medium to big in body with average carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with lots of toasted sugar, pine, sticky sugar, a bit of dirt, earth, toffee and yet more caramel. Solid. A quintessential American barley wine. Highly enjoyable stuff.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
XI version. 12 oz bottle. Deep, clear, garnet colour. Massive hop aroma, earthy, spicy, and citrusy all at the same time. There is also a lot of sweet biscuity malt underneath it all. More balanced in flavour than the nose would suggest, brown sugar, toast, some dark fruit before the spice and citrusy hops kick in. Long bitter finish. Could use some age, but is very drinkable right now.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I got this from douglas88 and belgianbeergal. Dark brown pour. Aroma is very sweet with a good nose of hops too. Flavor would be really nice but I personally do not love very hoppy barleywines and this one is hoppy. But it has a great mouthfeel and its obvious this beer is well made...just not my perfect style.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
OK on color and aroma, but not much on taste. Low as a barleywine, a little too drying. Altogether doesn’t work, with sweetness and medium mouthfeel but acidic, and too much alcohol in there. Maybe in a few years, but I won’t look out for it. Radekfest #5

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
15th Anniversary, bottled 7/21/08. Pours with a hazy deep red body, and a small, off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is hoppy, tangy with lots of caramel, with some prunes and dark fruits. Taste is very malty, slightly nutty with a slight burnt astringency towards the end. Thick mouthfeel with sharpish bubbles. Might mellow a bit in 3 or 4 years, but the starting product isn’t really promising enough to warrant the wait.
