COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV. Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name “barley wine” refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

courtesy of oh6gdx - cloudy dark brown colour with a rubish hue; little persistent beige foam and a nice lace; aroma of prune and nuts with solid hops in the background; full-bodied and oily, respectable bitterness before a long aftertaste of pine, herbs and licorice - begs for meditation

I got this from douglas88 and belgianbeergal. Dark brown pour. Aroma is very sweet with a good nose of hops too. Flavor would be really nice but I personally do not love very hoppy barleywines and this one is hoppy. But it has a great mouthfeel and its obvious this beer is well made...just not my perfect style.

UPDATED: FEB 5, 2013 Bottle @ home. Deep red orange appearance with a medium sized tan head. Rich toasty, toffee/caramel malty, dark fruity, earthy, organic hoppy aroma. Rich malty, caramel/toffee, somewhat woody, somewhat fruity, floral, a bit piney hoppy flavor with some mild booze on the finish. Drinks pretty easy. Pretty good barley wine.

2003 Vintage. Poured a mahogany color with a smaller off white head. Aromas of brown sugar, fruits, caramel, sweet malts, and light alcohol. Tastes of brown sugar, toffee, molasses and light alcohol. Who would have thought that a quality Barley Wine came from Utah!

OK on color and aroma, but not much on taste. Low as a barleywine, a little too drying. Altogether doesn’t work, with sweetness and medium mouthfeel but acidic, and too much alcohol in there. Maybe in a few years, but I won’t look out for it. Radekfest #5
