COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV. Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name “barley wine” refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

Really impressed with this beer. A BA member brought this back from his journies and said he paid very little for it. This is a nice barleywine. Worth the cheap price

XIV at GBBF 2008. Deep ruby brwon with a lasting off-white head. SNPA-like juicy citrus hop aroma, with some malt. Dry malty flavour with toffee and caramel, some citrus hop and a hint of alcohol. Very good, but felt like it probably would have been even better fresher.

Draught at Churchkey. Clear brownish maroon, off white edge head. Aroma of scotch, pine, spice, fresh hops. Taste has spices, caramel, prominent alcohol, bitter finish. Nicely hopped, balanced.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2011 bottle XVI. Have another aged a year, will update tomorrow. Pours dark auburn with beige tan head, bubbly froth. Nose is deep, rich molasses, actually some subtle smoke / bacon flavors, caramel. Thick, viscous, chewy mouth feel, but pretty smooth, 10% hidden, except for a warming on the finish. Flavor is deep and musky, almost cheesy, smoked wood, with a molasses backbone, yet no sickly sweetness. Interesting take on a barely wine and I quite like it. Not the cockeyed cooper, but at $8.99 a 6 pack its a great value. AGED 1 YEAR: Nose is sweet caramel, toffee, with fruity notes of raisin, definitely some smoke still here, but more subdued. Even a pickled plum aspect, definitely still some bacon on flavor. Smoother, creamier. Rich wood bacon smoke with sweet toffee, caramel, candied raisin. I think I like it better aged a bit. Overall excellent.

Bottle Beers of Europe. 16th Anniversary bottle. Pours a beautiful deep red with a fine pale tan head. Aroma is whisky and sherry and whilst there is a bit of alcoholic heat, its a lovely smooth beer with loads of rich flavours and a satisfying aftertaste. Had this for about a year, worth waiting for.

12 oz. bottle- Pours dark cherry red with a nice light one finger tan head that slowly reduces. Aroma is sweet, candy sugar, dark fruits, not your in your face intense aromas from most barley wines. The taste is barley wineish, only with that dark fruit component, similar to a Belgian Quad actually, kind of a blend of the two in my opinion. Smooth for the style, alcohol is noticeable, but well hidden actually. This is one of the better BW’s I have had in a while.

A remarkable barley wine! Poured a deep copper color with a lot of caramel in the nose. The taste was rich in the Carmel as well along with some fig and candied sugar. This was a very refreshing, warming beer that was definitely worth savoring.
