COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV. Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name “barley wine” refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

Dark, translucent mahogany with a medium tan head that disappears quickly. Aroma of sweet malt, toffee, caramel, and a bit of piney hops. Flavor is primarily sweet, and just barely cloying, with upfront sweet malty, toffee flavors. Saved by a nicely balancing crisp hop bite, and more of the pine first found in the aroma. For the most part, this is a fairly standard barley wine - malt-forward and sweet with heavy alcohol - but improves on that standard considerably with pine and bitterness. Surprisingly quaffable.

Aroma: Fruity (citrus, raisin, berry) and spicy hops; light caramel malt, sweet, subtle toast. Can smell a little alcohol.
Sweet malty flavor, with bread and caramel malt in the background. Balanced with firm bitterness, and candy-ish fruity (citrus, plum, and almost strawberry-like?), tongue-numbingly spicy hop flavor. Warming--but little to no alcohol flavor.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with plum highlights and a small foamy tan head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet candied dark fruits (cherry, raisin & plum) with a bit of toffee underneath. The flavor was tart, bitter and tangy with almost a sour presence and notes of molasses and raisin. Medium length bitter and tangy molasses and raisin finish with a boozy presence that comes out more with each sip. Moderately full bodied. Disappointing.

Pours orange with some head some lacing. Nose is toffee and grassy hops. Notes of roasted cereal, toffee, grassy hops and some alcohol burn. Tastes are heavy sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium with lively carbonation.

Enjoyable beer. The aroma is great. Sweet and toasted malts with a bit of piney hops. Flavor follows. Overall not mind blowing but pretty good

Clear medium brown with an off white head. Aroma is honey, grapes, brown sugar, floral hops. Slightly sticky mouthfeel, initially sweet on the palate then the hop bitterness kicks in. Taste is candied citrus peel, caramel, dried apricots, dried mango, hint of spruce in the aftertaste.

Pours a rusty brown with a lite fluffy head. The nose is hops, raisin, and spiced fruit cake. The pallet starts with hoppy astringent caramel followed by some oak and finishes with a burnt caramel ( cream brûlée). ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle pour. Muddy dark amber, with a light tan head and sticky lacing. Aroma is subdued but complex, with bready malt, light pine and citrus hops, brown sugar. Taste is more malt, caramel and crystal, with a warming finish with nice pine resin hops lingering. Slightly chalky, but it works. Carbonation is perhaps a touch high, oddly effervescent. I like it.

An excellent barleywine from an excellent brewery. Notes of dark fruit, licorice, and alcohol. Maintains an amazing amount of balance considering its hoppiness and high abv.

Upper tier barleywine in my opinion. Well balanced, not overly hoppy. Also, lots of fruits, cherry, berry, grape, not just big and sweet, but with complexity. Retains a lot of drinkability for the abv. Better warm...

Draft to taster. Looks good for the style; a slightly hazy brown with foamy light beige head. Smells and tastes solid; sweet and malty with notes of hops, caramel, and toffee. Nice on the palate too. A solid example of the style.
