bdigi66 (462), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA May 27, 2008 14th Anniversary Bottle: Courtesy of TBC...thanks Matt. Pours a clear, dark amber with no head. Notes of caramel, roasted malts, wheat and a hint of fruitiness...not much of a hop profile to it. Medium bodied...flavors of toasted grains, some woodsy/earthy characteristics and some hints of caramel.
AgentSteve (852), SF Bay Area, California, USA Oct 10, 2008 Thanks to IrishBoy, pours deep burnt caramel with a thin halo of a head. The nose is brown sugar, dried fruits and malty. Very nice. The flavor follows the nose nicely with a touch of heat lingering. A bit creamy on the palate. ucusty (1214), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 7, 2008 Ruby brown pour with thin khaki head. Alcohol on the nose. Dark fruit flavor balanced with a bitter hoppy blast. Svesse (1818), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 5, 2008 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2008. Labeld XV Anniversary Barley Wine) Dark ruby red with lasting pale brown head, leaving lots of lacing. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of pine needles, chocolate nad orange peel. Malty, hoppy taste with chocolate, blood oranges, orange peel, pine needles and resin. Long, hoppy finish. Rather sweet, but balanced by the hops. Medium to full body. Complex. Very tasty and quite brilliant. BMan1113VR (919), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Oct 2, 2008 15th Anniversary, bottled 7/21/08. Pours with a hazy deep red body, and a small, off-white head that leaves good lacing. Aroma is hoppy, tangy with lots of caramel, with some prunes and dark fruits. Taste is very malty, slightly nutty with a slight burnt astringency towards the end. Thick mouthfeel with sharpish bubbles. Might mellow a bit in 3 or 4 years, but the starting product isn’t really promising enough to warrant the wait. jsh12bama (227), Alabama, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours ruby red with thick tan head. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, and malt. Taste of sweet caramel and malt. Nice hoppy finish. Medium mouthfeel. Nice balance. Pretty good.
