COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in small batches annually to commemorate Uinta’s anniversary, this soul-warming brew is now available year-round. (Uinta’s anniversary is observed and noted by the change of the roman numeral on the label.) Uinta’s award winning barley wine has a dark amber hue with a rich malty character. Serious amounts of hops are used to balance its hardy alcohol content of over 10% ABV. Originating in England in the nineteenth century, barley wines are brewed with the same traditional ingredients as beer: water, malted barley, hops and yeast. There are no grapes or fruit used in the brewing process. The name “barley wine” refers to its alcohol content being similar to that of most wines, ranging from 8.5% to 14% ABV. Unlike most beers, barley wines age remarkably well. If you have the will power, set an Anniversary Barley Wine aside for a year or more.

A very nice barleywine overall. Pours a beautiful deep red with a thick tan head. Smells of caramel, barley and other malts. Taste is thick and boozy, with caramel, vanilla, and a sharp, sweet finish. Had in the bottle.

Let this Barley Wine warm from Uinta to get the true spectrum of flavors. Strong hop biitterness backed up by a solid wall of malts. Well rounded English style Barley Wine. Picked up a 2014 vintage 4-pack this past Spring @ State Line Liquors.

DRaft. Amber/dark pour. This is definitely an american barleywine, super hoppy, feels like a double ipa with jsut loads of malt character, the two balance.

Possibly too fresh? This had a harshness I did not expect. Alcohol was forefront, more so than other barley wines I’ve enjoyed. Poured brown, with little head. Aroma’s of malt and alcohol. Flavor was slightly astringent, with more bitter than malt, and more alcohol burn. Finish could be smoother, again perhaps needing aging.

Bottle. Murky orange-amber pour with a small rocky white head. Malt, dark fruit, toffee, and some nice hop assertiveness to offset the sweetness. Creamy but not heavy on the tongue. Good stuff.

Bottle. Pours a deep red-brown with a high, very solid, lacy light brown head. Nose is toffee, boozy, herbal, walnuts, and fruitcake. Drier than I expected on the tongue, with a hefty dose of black tea and spice; comes off almost chai-like, with oak and herbal elements. Finish is long and a little hot. Quite good.
