Pours a deep, opaque brown with a thin, tan head that stays. Decent lacing. Rich, creamy mouthfeel with very subtle carbonation. Heavily malty but somewhat dull flavor with only slight hops that provide a bit of balance. Not bad, but there are several better representatives of this class. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for the Daystrom M-5

Six pack of bottles purchased at the Beverage King West Lebanon, NH. Lager glass shows me a deep brown with a black center. Lasting tan head with lace. Nose is rich roasted notes. The taste is toasted grain, dark chocolate, hints of smoke (as a subtle nuance) and earthy malt. Just a hint of bittering hops. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation and medium body. A nicely made Schwarzbier that I’m really happy I grabbed an entire 6 pack of. Nicely drinkable and very tasty.

can - rich dark brown pour with reddish highlights, beige head & great lacing. Lovely nose. Rich cereal grains, malts and a hint of ivory soap. Sharply front with strong carbonation. Crisp grainy with a hint of caramel and chocolate. Bright, lively body, with a medium mouthfeel. Finishes with some lingering bitterness. A very tasty beer that’s spot on for the style.

Bottle from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Pours a nearly opaque very dark brown, with a moderate amount of tan head. Aroma roasted malt and maybe just a hint of toffee/burnt sugar. Body lively as befits the style, with a smooth, roasty finish. Really lovely, dark enough to sip in the winter, but without the heaviness that marks some dark lagers.

12 ounce can. Pours a dark black with a slight red hue and a one inch tan head that lasts. Taste is of smoke, roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, coffee, some pine and hops. Similar aroma. Has a nice body that is on the fuller side. The finish is slightly bitter and dry. Very drinkable and quite enjoyable. A surprise that it is this flavorful and is only 4% abv. A new favorite, will buy again.

This is a very nice black lager especially for folks not ready for Porters and Stouts. Rich mahogany color, malty sweetness but with good balance with a mild coffee bitterness.

Pours a midnight brown with tan head. Aroma is dark and tart fruits with some good and smokey chocolate notes. Flavor is light and smokey with both tart and nutty qualities providing and interesting dynamic. At 4% ABV this brew makes for a light but surprisingly hardy session beer that suits any season.

On tap at The Beerhive. Pours a dark brown with a thick, foamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate malt, smoked meats. Flavor of roasted malt, roasted nuts, smoked meats, chocolate malt. Pretty tasty schwarzbier! The flavors could be a little sharper/more prominent though. Creamy mouthfeel. 7/4/7/4/14 (3.6/5)
