3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Pours a deep black color, with a two finger fizzy tan head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, slight hop note, with some nice little chocolate notes. The taste is sweet, malty, very slight hop note, and caramel. Medium body, nice carbonation, with a nice crisp feel.

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: OCT 9, 2013 Underwhelming all around. I try to enjoy lagers for what they are but this is a style that just does not appeal to me. Poured very dark and impressive, with a small, light head and very little aroma. Sharp carbonation, light coffee and roasted flavor. But very light all around in contrast to the color. Not a lot of mouthfeel, not a lot of anything.
Would I drink again? no.

Bottle at the Great British Beer Festival 2013. Poured a dark ruby with a thick, dense off white head. Aroma of dark malt, caramel and light coffee. Flavours of dark fruit, milk chocolate and cereal. Light mouthfeel. Leaves with some grassy hops, molasses and maple syrup.

Bottled. Pours black with a big brown head. Smells and tastes smoked meat, coffee and roasted malt and abit bitter with a similar finish.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Bottle Revolution (Raleigh).
Pours a dark brown with light brown head. Taste is kind of tart (nowhere near sour), but well worth sipping on.

Can sample at a tasting at Dancing Camel. Thanks zvikar. Black with a big tan head. Nice aroma of roasted grains, a bit of coffee and some toasted bread. Flavor has a bit of roastiness, some smokiness, coffee hints, a bit of caramel notes and a dry finish. Medium-bodied.

Opaque black - brown beer with a tidy pale tan - cream coloured head. Palate starts soft but has robust minerally carbonation. Somewhat insipid dark malt with a lactose and a vague soapy note. A suggestion of some citric hop, well buried. Minerally dry finish. Doesn’t bring a lot to the table!

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle to glass. Dark black pour with a khaki head. Smell is intense roasted malt, hazelnut, soy sauce? Taste is strange. Roasted malt again and sweet nuttiness, but a strange watery bubbly mouth feel. Not unpleasant, just awkward.

Nice aroma on this beer, I get chocolate, vanilla, caramel, roast character, also smells somewhat tannin. Tastes of bitter chocolate, vanilla, coffee, I do get a tannic dry flavor.
