3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
6 pack of cans best before August 24, 2014. Pours a nice deep, dark hue. Pitch black is obviously an exaggeration, but it’s well within style. This smells like it’s gonna be a solid shwarzbier. It’s roasty, a little nutty with mild hints at toffee and latte and a nice crispness. The mouthfeel is lighter, but Baba is still complex and flavorful. Uinta has a knack for making these 4% abv beers really satisfying. The flavor is nutty, with hints at cacao, instant coffee, wafers, toffee and an earthy, but milky finish. I poured this guy into a goblet for a better tasting experience, but I totally want to put a coozie on one of these bad boys and sip it on a warm spring day. Very drinkable, very clean. The only shortcoming here at all is that after a full glass, it does seem a little waterier than a top notch black lager. Still, they’ve done a stand up job with this to comply with the crazy Utah laws.

Beer of month club. Pours a dark, dark brown with almost no head. Mild nose, some chocolate. Taste of some chocolate, smokiness and roasted hops. Easy to drink, smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Good one.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from cool-looking 12oz brown bottle into Willybecher glass, an opaque dark brown colour, reddish at the corners when held to the light, with creamy beige, long-lasting with lace. Subtle but pleasant aromas of dark grain, just a hint of peppery, flowery hops. Toasty flavour, roasty (but not too), mild earthy hoppy bittering balance. Hint of coffee-like acidity. Grainy mouthfeel with nice mineral essence. Light body, strong carbonation, crisp dry lager finish. Inviting session-strength. Excellent example of style.

On tap @ Uinta. Very dark brown in color with some khaki foam. Nice roasted malts and a hint of burnt toast on the nose. Pleasant coffee and chocolate as well. A subtle sweetness of blackberry and toasted bread along with a pretty heavy roast character and some coffee. Maybe a hint of cocoa powder as well. Nice floral and leafy hops in there, too. Probably my favorite beer of the stop.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark cola-colored beer with a thin light beige head. Sweet nose of brown sugar, candied nuts, and caramel. Flavor follows with the sweet characteristics of the aroma followed up by some roasted grain and a medium smoky bitterness that finishes a bit too quickly. Nothing is particularly strong, but overall the flavors harmonize well. Decent beer.

(bottle - 12 oz) Dark brown pour with a puffy tan head. Light roasted malt aroma with a hint of chocolate. Dark malts at the start of the flavor with a lightly roasted coffee middle. Dark fruits and an almost wine-like hint at the finish before a touch of bitterness.
