UPDATED: DEC 29, 2014 Didnít want o rate this as high as I did, but I did... then I rated it again. Pours a dark cola with a decent head. The aroma: caramel, bread, cereal, chocolate, nuts, roasty, slight resin, slight spruce, a little cheese, some basement aromas, banana, butterscotch, really light smoke, some skunky, some vanilla, itís actually pretty interesting. The taste is nice but WAY lopsided to sweetness. Light bodied palate, creamy, soft carb, a long soft velvet finish. Nice.

Bottle from Candia Convenience Store. Aroma is roasted malts, hints of chocolate--is this a porter? Appearance is dark, dark, brown--almost black, with tiny creamy white head with almost no retention. Taste is rich, medium malty sweetness with very mildly bitter end. Palate is medium bodied with lively carbonation over the full tongue with short finish. Overall, a black lager that brushes up against the Porter category. Not complex but above average in all categories. Good beer.

Can at Porch Nite shared with Brisben. Pours dark brown with a thin foamy off white head. Aroma is roasty. Flavor follows with some readiness. Slight chocolate. Thin bodied and dry. Finishes clean. Nice beer.

Roasty chocolatey bready malt Pours black with red hues and big fluffy lasting light brown head Roasty malts, chocolate, light coffee. Earthy hops Medium light bodied, with medium high CO2, roasty finish. Great black lager. Just the right amount of roasty malts. A tad bitter, but still well balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Delicious, refreshing, and a nice kick in the ass to boot. Lived this beer from the first taste camping in Zion NP. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft sample at Cherry Blossom Beer & Wine fest, almost opaque black color with light tan head. Aroma notes of roasted malt, chocolate, light coffee and faint fruitiness. Taste is subdued to aroma; added light smoke and earthiness. Light body, moderate carbonation, crisp with light roast finish. A pretty tasty light black lager.

Milkiness, sour, and dryness did not work out for me. It's different though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz can marked with a BB date of May 2015. Huge, foamy tan head over a nearly opaque, dark brown body. Rich, malty and complex. This drinks like an ale. Creamy smooth mouthfeel mimics a nitro tap origin. Lasting aftertaste of dark malts and earthy/herbal hops. O: closer to a stout than any black lager Iíve had, this also may be the best.

Very good. Appearance is a thick light tan, long lasting head with lots of lace and an almost opaque, but clear black brown color. Aroma is roast up front then dark leather, meat, coffee, malt. cocoa. Flavorís like nose, dryish at first, then with the other qualities including tang, thereís a bit of sweet in the finish. Body is good, tho perhaps a bit thin. Very quaff-able. Iíd like to have another right away.

3/19/15 (Can) - Dark black pour, roasted malt and coffee scents were very strong and desirable. Taste was even better, excellent roasted malt and chocolate. Very smooth to drink, minimal carbonation, light in both texture and ABV. Nice paring with desert. Overall very good offering!

Not much of an aroma - cardboard malts and something like old split pea and ham soup. A little weird. Flavor is where it shines more - lots of tasty malt roast, something vaguely bacon-ish, and more roast hitting in the finish. Salty. Some bread notes. Iíve stated my love before of a well-done schwarzbier, and while this isnít among the tops of the style, IMO, itís got the main elements that make it drinkable, flavorful, and yet light enough to quaff.
