Nice schwartz bier. Full bodied roasty lager with a smokey finish that lingers for just a moment or two.

UPDATED: MAY 4, 2014 Pretty much black with a nice foamy tan head with longevity. Aroma is rich, dark roasted barley. Flavor is rich dark roasted barley as well but with enough balancing bitterness to not make this beer too sweet. Coffee and chocolate undertones. Cool on the palate and drinks more like an ale. Just good. No reason not to make this a goto front porch sitter. Its what shiner black tried to be. Even better its lower abv than light macros.

Pour: Dark brown with a big tan head. Smell: herbal & floral hops, lager yeast, light malt, charcoal. Taste: roasty and malty w/ a decent amount of hops. Very light chocolate and espresso notes Tart, semi dry finish-not too bitter. Very light and easy to drink. A good beer. :)

BJCP Category 8B: Schwarzbier
AROMA: Plenty of roasty malt like a stout. Light chocolate/coffee. Clean fermentation; no apparent esters. 10/12
APPEARANCE: Black proper hue; dark ruby highlights. Seems filtered. Large tan foamy head - great retention and lacing. 3/3
FLAVOR: Malt-forward with dark malt and some roastiness and coffee in the background. Dry bitterness at the apex with slight floral/pine hops. Sweet, but far from cloying. Not wonderfully delicious, but Absolutely to-spec on all points! 17/20
MOUTHFEEL: Surprisingly thick for such a light beer. Medium body. Slightly dry, but easily tolerable aftertaste. Not refreshing, but fun and easy to drink. 5/5
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Almost a perfect beer and probably the best example of the style I can recall having. A fresh bottle might score a perfect 50! 9/10
TOTAL SCORE: 44/50

Wow. Bottle from Ty. Black pour with medium lingering head. Nose is coffee and sweetness with a bit of smoke. Body is smooth and mellow. Coffee and chocolate in there with just a mild lingering bitterness to remind you that those Utah people are Crazy.

10oz tulip glass poured from tap, dense light-brown head that receded at a medium pase with nice lacing; beautiful dark brown; surprisingly light and clean malty aroma; light-medium body, minimal bitterness, straightforward, pleasantly effervescent, dissipating roasty sweet finish but not too quickly.
