Bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting creamy tan head. Aromas of roastiness, bakers cocoa and coffee. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of roastiness, light bakers cocoa and light coffee with a crisp roasty finish.

Poured a very dark brown, almost black, with a thin light-tan head. Aroma is smokey with coffee and roasted notes. Taste is a little thin, but there are some good smokey flavors. Caramel, and some nuts as well. Very roasted. Maybe too much smoke, it overpowers the other flavors. Finish is a bit chewy with some yeast and more smoke.

Pours dark, but almost transluscent as streams of brown light permeate. There is a relatively thin head that disippates quicker than I would have figured. As is my typical experience with organic beers, the mouthfeel is thin and the flavors are short. However the quick burst of roasty, almost chocolately flavors are quite enjoyable. Low ABV makes this really easily sessionable, but on its own, it is a tad weak.

12 ounce bottle from Bottle Revolution, Raleigh. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of sweet malts, chocolate and a bit of roast. The taste is roasted malts, nuts, chocolate and a bitter hop finish. Thin-medium bodied. Decent.

Dark brown in color, clear with a thin head. Dark roast and light smoke aroma. Hops are earthy and the flavor was rich with roast malt. Light bred like finish this was dry. East tasty black lager.

Bottle:   Nearly black, deep cola, thin sudsy off-white head, little lacing.   Somewhat of a dark mealy nose, slight lactose and stale coffee.   Roasty on the tongue, a bit of ash, smidgen of soy and fig, followed by a bit of old coffee that was doused with milk & sugar.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Smooth going down, lingering toasted biscuit and cold coffee, sweetened of course.   Less mealy and grainy than many other examples.   Rather nice.

Strong, smoky aroma has tones of licorice and charred wood. It pours a deep sable a whisker above black with a decent tan head. Flavor is woody and smoky, with hints of licorice and coffee. Texture is smooth and fizzy but body is average. Overall it’s so-so, but worth sampling.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, long retained light beige head, with a bit of lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 30) body....nose is light coffee, hints of cocoa....taste is light coffee, light chocolate, finishing with a light dry bitterness....mouth feel light, carbonation adds a light foam. This meets the style quite well. It is malt forward, is minimally hopped, remains dry, and has a pleasant complexity. Rating is to its meeting the style, but this has all the making of a great session beer. BJCP 7/3/14/4/7
