Robust and smooth, this full-flavored lager is exceptionably drinkable and pitch black in color.

Very dark brown brew with a 2 finger head of off white foam sitting atop. Bitter roasted malt in the smell with string hints of smoke. The bitter could be some hop character as well, I suppose. Roasted malt, bitter hops, definite flavours of smoke that compliment. There’s some real harmony going on with this black lager. It has a creamy mouthfeel. Very good brew!

12oz bottle pours deep darkness with mahogany edges and lasting mocha head. The aroma offers up a good load of dark roasted malts as well as a bit of burnt malts and highly toasted wheat bread. The taste is full of dark roasted malts, some mild spicy rye notes and then picking up a modest level of dry malt astringency. Very nice full flavored brew.

Requisite darkness applies along with an average size head and good lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate and chicory. Flavor is true to the spirit of a schwarzbier, with modest sweetness, some smoke, a strong roasted malt backbone and hops that are more spicy than citrusy. Medium bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel with a lingering finish.

Pour is black with some dark ruby highlights around the edges - thin ring of tan foam - complex nose of hazelnut, cream, espresso, lightly charred maltiness, a hint of smoke - creamy, medium to light body - approach is dry, with moderate mineral character and a light bitterness - some roast settles into the palate after that, along with light touches of bittersweet chocolate - lightly bitter hops arrive late, along with some black malt bitterness - finish is of cocoa, espresso, light smoke, a touch of dry mineral - pretty awesome beer - if you can’t make a session beer like this, then quit the game, motherfucker - quit the game.

First outing for me and Uinta and this is a solid black lager. Pours black with a lightly tan head. Aroma is roasty with coffee and black chocolate notes. Matching taste with a lighter build than a porter. light carbonation on the palate with an easy finish. Would have again.

12 oz. bottle pours black with a small frothy tan head and good lacing. Smells of roasted malts and grains. Aroma is full of roasted malts and coffee. I expected a thinner body from a lager, but don’t complain at all. Tastes slightly sweet with the hops and a smoky flavor (almost like bacon) coming out in the finish. I’m glad to have picked up 6 of these. Cool label and compass bottle neck, too.

Very dark appearance with very little head. Robust aroma of roasted malt and some burnt sugar sweetness. Taste follows as mostly well roasted malts with some piney tones and even milk stout chocolate-like presence. Real dark for 4% lager, even though it is definitely not as thick as a stout or porter. Good stuff.

Wow, the shape of this bottle makes for a very nice pour. Beatiful black smooth looking liquid. First taste is very friendly mild stout attributes, very nice. Yesssss, very nice, I’m liking this experience. Mild char on back of throat and even tho it builds thru the session, it never goes over the top. As session continues I think I would like to have a case of this stuff. Very nice really nifty black beer experince. Yes, almost as good as Xingu, Krušovice Černe, Buckbean Black Noddy Lager, Shiner 97 Bohemian Black Lager, Full Sail Session Black Lager, Brick Waterloo Dark & Magic Hat Howl

12 ounce bottle into pilsener glass, bottled on 5/7/2012. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some good soapy lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, char, caramel, roasted malt, and light earthiness. Very nice and well balanced aromas with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, char, roasted malt, coffee, caramel, toast, herbal, and earthiness. Lingering notes of roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, herbal, and earth on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance and robustness of flavors. Fairly dry on the finish with no cloying at all. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a lightly creamy and crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming as expected of 4%. Overall this is a very nice schwarzbier. Very nice balanced and robust flavors for a 4% beer; very smooth to drink. Very enjoyable stuff. If I could get this around here, this would definitely be a nice session beer choice.
