A n opaque black body with a tan head, which had good retention and nice lace. Aroma had a nice roasted malt presence upfront. There was notes of smoke and even the presence of leather. Mildly reminiscent of a imperial stout. Flavor was similar. Mouth feel was on the light side, but i think that is the trust behind this style. Slightly dry in the finish.

outstanding - aroma of dark caramel, wood, cocoa, and grass---flavor is chocolate syrup. fresh ground coffee, bread, cream, light smoke, earthy hops - smooth creamy palate - very flavorful and light - one of my favorite dark beers

This is my kind of beer. Dark, rich, sweet and that bitter end. Sounds a bit like a relationship... Strong chocolate smooth taste with roasty finish. If you like stouts or darks, it’s a very solid drinkable favorite

Pours a nice dark brown (almost black) with a small tan head. Aromas of sweet roast malts, chocolate, and hints of fruit (cherries?). Flavor is almost to sweet, I can detect little trace amounts of licorice. Felt a little watery to me on the finish.

This beer pours great. Dark Brown in color. Nice Head that dissipates quickly though. Taste is surprising for a dark lager, coffee and toasty caramel notes really come through. Overall enjoyed this beer, solid schwarzbier.

Aroma: roasted malts and roasted caramel. Appearance: deep brown color and creamy head. Taste: roasted notes, low herbal bitterness, caramel, semi-dry. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, roasted finish. Overall: Really decent schwarzbier, seems to be a little bit too sweet, but that’s fine.

Klare dunkel orange braune Farbe, mittelgroße leicht beige Schaumkrone. Geruch schokoladig, mild röstmalzig, Vanille. Geschmack röstmalzig süß, Kaffee, Vanille, lecker!

BJCP Category 8B: Schwarzbier

AROMA: Plenty of roasty malt like a stout. Light chocolate/coffee. Clean fermentation; no apparent esters. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Black proper hue; dark ruby highlights. Seems filtered. Large tan foamy head - great retention and lacing. 3/3

FLAVOR: Malt-forward with dark malt and some roastiness and coffee in the background. Dry bitterness at the apex with slight floral/pine hops. Sweet, but far from cloying. Not wonderfully delicious, but Absolutely to-spec on all points! 17/20

MOUTHFEEL: Surprisingly thick for such a light beer. Medium body. Slightly dry, but easily tolerable aftertaste. Not refreshing, but fun and easy to drink. 5/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Almost a perfect beer and probably the best example of the style I can recall having. A fresh bottle might score a perfect 50! 9/10

TOTAL SCORE: 44/50

Looks fantastic. Now and dark with a super foamy head. Sadly looks better than it smells. Also better than it taste. Not bad but not great. Better than most generic leaders. Nothing special here though.
