No bristlecones were harmed in the production of this award winning beer. Deep chocolate brown and an amber head, Bristlecone Brown Ale is a seasonal beer and available for a short time. We chose the name as a tribute to the regal Great Basin Bristlecone pine. Among these stately survivors is the 4,765 year-old Methuselah, the oldest living inhabitant of North America. Its exact location is kept secret as an older relative nicknamed “Prometheus” was unfortunately cut down in 1964. This particular long-living species is typically found in the higher elevations of Nevada, California and Utah’s Wasatch Range. Due to cold temperatures, high winds, and dry soils, these pines grow very slowly.

Pretty typical Brown Ale. Looks great- nice color, clarity, and thin head that doesn’t stick around. The flavor is a bit harsh, though the maltiness does provide a nice smooth finish to the palate. Not a wonderful aftertaste.

A heady and drinkable brown with a great mouthfeel and clean finish. Almost black opaque pour and abundant toffee head. Light on the aromatics (ie malt heavier). Great roasted character without being too sweet, just wants for a bit of unique character to stand out from the other decent browns. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

More beer from mother in law, wait a minute, how did she know I couldn’t get Uinta in AK. No worries, I’m grateful. This was poured into a mug. The appearance was a nice looking hazy brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light lacing sticking and then sliding down into the beer. The smell had a decent nutty/burnt caramel with a crisp leafy - ness to it (reminiscent of Autumn). The taste was semi - sweet with a nice robust and somewhat roasty to burnt caramel to nuttiness with a light toffee coming in to satisfy. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was appropriately styled and was good for me. Overall, nice brown ale I could definitely see myself coming back to if I could get it again. So glad to have a brown ale on this murky SE Alaskan night in what we call Autumn right now.

Bottle in Layton. Fairly typical brown ale across the board. Bitterness actually dominates the flavor profile so maybe a little one dimensional.

(12oz bottle) clear medium brown, soapy tan bubbles. Weird nose, herbal, piney, malty, Melba toast, weird combo of smells. Taste of pine, dry malt, toasty, caramel and light watery chocolate malt.

Pours chestnut brown with off white head. Slightly bready aroma with a hint of sweetness. Flavor has some bready biscuit that finishes fairly clean. Nice balance and complexity. A real nice brown.

Torrey, UT - La Cueva Restaurant (bought at the adjacent store) - 12 oz bottle. Dark brown - cola -like pour with an off-white head, decent lacing. Aroma has some nice chocolate and coffee accents. Flavor is pretty solid with some dark bittersweet chocolate notes, some chicory coffee, a bit of potting soil. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice accompaniment to my chile rellenos.

Bottle shared by Keith from some stupid beer club thing. Thin and red brown with no lacing or head. Watery and homebrewish brown, notes are mostly malt, nuts and bread. Not good.

Beer of month club. Pours a clear honey brown - reminds me of dark ice tea color. Nose is earthy, slightly roasted malt. Taste has done nuttiness , roasted malt. Decent - glad I tried, but not memorable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle-pours brown with a small lite kacki head and no lacing. nose is nutty and a bit sweet. flavors of roasted pecans and almonds. very nice toasted flavors here. i actually think this is quite a decent session brown ale, a style that i really dont like. For 4% this has alot of flavor. Lite body yet the flavors are distributed quite nicely. a very good session brown ale, something good for cool spring or fall weather.
