Brewed in celebration of Uinta’s 20th Birthday, this American Sour Brown Ale flaunts significant acidity balanced by flavorful Abbey and Chocolate malts and a modest amount of hops. A distinct tartness on the palate combines with notes of toffee and earthiness.

THOUGHTS: Very interesting. It tasted like a simple brown ale for a split second and then the sour hits you. A special beer for an anniversary. TECHNICAL: Drank 4/5/2013. Bottle. Poured a clear, medium brown with reddish amber highlights and a small to average, off-white head that mostly diinished and left virtually no lacing. The aroma had moderate dark bread and cookie; slight underlying molasses, caramel and chocolate; light hops; moderate to heavy sweat, leather, cheese, meat and funky yeast that increased as it warmed and was quite strong by the end; lemon; sour apple; sour cherry; toffee; funky cheese; sweet cherry Kool-Aid powder. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and acetic, and moderately sour and acidic; while the finish was heavily sour and moderately acetic with and average to long duration. There was tea, dark bread, sour rye, sour fruit, sour cherry, super sour apple, lemon, light funky yeast, a little wood, chocolate, hints of tobacco, a little caramel, and toffee. The light to medium body was dry but a little oily with fairly soft carbonation and a sour and dry finish.

750ml split with the crew. Has an apple sour tone. Slick and sweet. Decent sour tones, but kind of cidery. Doesn’t really come off like a true Belgian at all. The apple tones really take over. Not quite what I’d hoped for, but an OK sour brown.

(750ml bottle) Pours a clear amber body with a quickly diminishing medium white head. Aroma of cherry, caramel, berries, toffee, light chocolate, cork, earthiness, and old books. Flavor of caramel, toffee, wood, subtle vanilla, and light oxidation with a moderately dry finish.

Bottle. Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate sour & sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sour & sweet flavor with a medium sweet & sour finish of moderate duration. This is a solid beer.

750 corked n’ caged bottle, just over a year old- Pours hazy autumn orange with a one finger crackly white head that reduces quickly leaving a collar. The aroma is malty, caramel malts, tart and vinegar, dark fruits. The taste is pretty much the same, pretty tart, not a fan of the malts here, chocolate malts and caramel seem out of place, not sure if it’s because of the age or if it just tastes like this. The finish is the best part, that’s when all the sour funky flavors start to dominate really saving this beer. Decent

Reddish brown with a large off-white head. Aroma is baked apple, caramel. Tart on the palate, sticky mouthfeel, sour finish. Flavours are tart strawberries, fig, plums. Ok but a Lille lackluster.

Hog shack bottle share. Slightly hazy amber and big cap that quickly reduces. Aroma of sour fig, meat, very overripe cherry, earth. Taste is super sour. Not really deep.

Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball. Looks decent; a slightly cloudy gold with white lacing. Smells bready and mildly yeasty. Tastes Like a sour! Nothing like it smells like. Pleasantly tart with some lemon notes and a touch of earthiness. Enjoyable, and tastes much more robust and sour than it smells.
