In general, I think these guys are underrated but others seem to agree with me on this beer. The lightest rye IPA in color Iíve seen. The flavor is also far less roasty tan other rye or black IPAs, which is nice. An extremely creamy head, yet overall itís not all that exciting. Reasonably priced compared to other Crooked Uinta beers.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2013 Near perfect hop aroma, start to finish. Very amazing head that last. Taste is very very hoppy, Excellent DIPA mouthfeel. This is a great beer for a hop head who likes a little resin. Very nice. If anything, a bit to syrupy....

Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Bottled on 05/30/13. Copper pour with a tall, dense tan head. Aroma is spicy and floral with citrus notes, rye, caramel and sweet malt. Taste is caramel, strong citrus, rye notes, spicy hops, floral hops and toasted malt. Body is medium with a strong, dense, fluffy carbonation. Finishes with more big citrus, spicy hops, caramel, toasted malt, grains, floral hops and light pine.

Pours a rich copper color with three fingers of sticky eggshell foam. The nose is spicy rye, grapefruit, caramel malt and a touch of boozy plastic. The palate follows the nose with ripe citrus notes that lead into sweet round caramel notes that slowly become spicy and bitter in the finish.

This is a tasty, strong, bitter double IPA. It pours a clear golden color with a really big head and medium carbonation. The aroma is the main presence of rye, I picked up on more in the smell than the flavor. Not that the flavor is bad, though. Itís big and bitter. The malt has the same rich, kinda sweet potato like quality that Iíve noticed in Uintaís Dubhe black IPA, but the sweetness is a minor note. The huge, resiny bitterness dominates. I liked this.

Aromas of pine, sharp lemon, nutty tones, and subtle pepper. Mostly clear red-nectarine complexion with a lasting, bubbly, off-white head. Dry, hoppy, spicy, and slightly nutty. Smooth, medium bodied, with refreshing carbonation, and a hoppy, peppery and nutty finish.

750 mL bottle from Beer Run. Pours a clear copper color with a large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Big rye notes in the aroma along with floral, citrus hops and toasted malts. The taste is bitter resin hops, spicy rye. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, slight booze.

Tap. Pours clear to hazy reddish amber, medium beige creamy head, nice lacing. Faint pine, citrus, caramel. Flavor is clean and malty with a bit of rye spiciness. Surprisingly light in distinguishing hop character. Light plus sweet, light bitter. Medium body, oily mouthfeel.

Damn reasonable price on this bomber at Samís, Durham. Cloudy amber pour, deep and roiling carbonation with a sticky head. Slight sweetness in the nose, backed up by aggressive hops, rye, and a general heat. Thick mouthfeel, a bit too oily and smooth for the style perhaps. But the flavors are deeply resinous and bitter, with the sweet end of the hops touching base with the malt profile and finished off with pleasant rye spice.

bottle. a clear, bubbly beer with a amber/orange color and a huge foamy head. tropical, orange, pineapple hop aroma with noticeable alcohol. bitter rye, lots of juicy hops in flavor. full bodied. nice smooth palate for such a big beer. turned out to be a very good beer, but i was a little intimidated by the strong alcohol aroma.
