Launch into the exquisite flavors of bourbon with splashes of vanilla. Watch for currents of dark chocolate and dried fruit. Generous amounts of hops and malts make for a smooth journey from start to finish. Decadent desserts and aged cheeses make superb companions.

From a bomber poured in a snifter. Aroma is smoky and boozy. Flavor is stiff harsh bourbon flavors with notes of charcoal, burnt sugar, and a bit of tar. Slightly bitter. Finish. Many off-putting flavors and not many good ones to counteract. Alcohol far too present. Disappointing.

From notes. Tasted in early 2013 from a corked and caged 750mL bottle at SvT’s house. Pours cloudy brown/orange with an average tan head that leaves average, even lace. The nose is caramel, resin hops, some vanilla, and earthy yeast. The flavor is fairly dry for all of the caramel and vanilla, with the hops and earth providing some bitterness. The body is full with average carbonation and a long, very bitter finish.

Dark brown with reddish hues brew sitting under about a fingers worth of off white foam. The smell I get is all Bourbon and a strong bitterness. The taste is even more intrusive with the Bourbon. Together with the very instringent bitterness, it gets to be a real chore to take the next sip. Too fresh and needs some cellaring? Maybe. Fine fullish mouthfeel. Too rough of a BA Barleywine for me.

Dark brown with fairly thick off-white head. A little bourbon aroma, hint of chocolate, and some fruit. Taste is mostly sweet, as it warms, the flavor and aroma grow stronger and more boozy. Pretty good.

Pours a dark brown with a thin off white head which doesn’t hang around long.....aroma of booze, raisins, fig....taste is booze up front with dates, raisin, bitter cereal, tailing off into a metallic sweet finish with woody aftertones.

For a barley wine, it pours with quite a head. It’s a dark brown with a frothy light brown head. Lacing is apparent as the head retreats. The aroma has dried fruits and chocolate. There are flavors of alcohol, but not overwhelming, dried fruits, chocolate, and a touch of vanilla. Overall well done. It is moderately bitter on the finish.

Bottle. Moderate toasted cereal for the malt, light herbs and dough for the yeast, with hints of vinegar and cocoa powder. Head is average size, frothy/creamy, beige with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is dark murky brown. Flavor starts lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, creamy, with a soft to lively carbonation. A tasty Barley Wone with some interesting unique aspects.
