4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, shared with Parksy, Grippitis, and Ian. Tasted alongside Cigar City Warmer Winter Warmer. Tis was lighter in colour, but still had a lovely deep rued-orange hue. Dates, brown bread, brown sugar, dried apricots. Sticky, chewy, fantastic. Low hop presence, but this bottle has almost 2 years of age on it. Man I love a good barley wine.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750, corked and caged. Wow, Utah brewers hit that ground with a hurryupness once the laws changed. Big beasty BW. Pours nearly opaque mahogany with a towering, dense, creamy medium tan head. Big sweet bourbony nose, a little twangy. Lots of malty caramel and brown bread notes. We’ve been down this olfactory road often enough to know when we’re seeing a winning--if rather played out--combination of aromatics. Big boozy bourbony brown bread barley wine. OK. Sticky thickish body, lively-enough carb even when it’s still pretty cold. Toast, raisins, caramel, bourbon, and a little twang on the mid-palate. Long toasty caramel finish. Nice enough beast.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, 9 March 2011) Dark ruby colour with brief, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, oak wood, dried fruit, bourbon, treacle and hints of vanilla. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, oak wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, treacle, dried fruit, pink grapefruit and vinous hints of warming alcohol in a finish with a generous piney, citric bitterness and a spicy bourbon sweetness. Full body, quite bitter and sweet. Powerful and quite impressive beer. Lovely stuff!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle:   Reddish caramel, moderate sudsy light beige head, spotty lacing.   Fruity sweet caramel nose, slightly nutty and malty.   Somewhat of a bright citrus rind background, malty, nutty, bready, and very green.   Seems to need some age, albeit its not that alcoholic and not that sweet.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Needs to be a bit sweeter, maybe more caramel and bright fruitiness.   Nose is decent, but doesnt translate to the tongue very well.   Seems green, without being very big and an ability to age.   Not uber hoppy, not uber malty, seems a cross between an American and an English example.   Almost wished it would pick a side.   Not bad, but seems green and not smooth enough.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft. Pours brown with a beige head. Sweet toffee malts, a bit boozy, herbal and grassy hoppy notes, dark fruits, and lighter bourbon sweetness. A bit too aggressive for the sake of being aggressive, but still quite good.
