good lord this is superb.
Aroma pf vanilla, oak, caramel, toffee. malt. with hints of grass and resin.
Appearance is clear with a one finger head and a reddish hue.
Taste is vanillla oak , malt sweetness and a bitter backbone.
Palate is a little thick and chewy but now overly so. Perfect for the style.
Overall this is the bet barleywine I’ve had aged or not. Superb offering. Two in a row from uinta. Bravo!

This is really a top-notch barleywine. Lots of molasses, tons of hops, a good hop bite throughout. A great sipping beer.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2011 A tall head and strong on the aroma. Fat and malty with a strong hop presence. Good effers and a creamy texture. A good sipping brew with defined whiskey essence and a long finish.

My first reaction when I tried this beer, in a bourbon barrel version, was simply "Wow." It had great taste and great subtlety (for a barleywine ale) and the bonus of the bourbon barrel. Should all my beers be so powerful and profound.

This beer is AMAZING. It has a vanilla aroma. You really can smell the bourbon. It is a beautiful dark brown color with hints of red. The cream colored head last and sticks beautifully to the edge of the glass as if to count the number of sips you have taken. It starts off with a very strong complex flavor but isn't too heavy. For an 11% beer (sorry barley wine) it doesn't taste strongly if alcohol. It finishes cleanly with a taste of vanilla. This is one of my all time favorite can't get enough of it beers.

Chocolate and coconut nose. Molasses color. No head. Chocolate malt flavor with coconut aftertaste. Long complex finish.

Complex aroma that starts with wet hops and vanilla then falls into dark cocoa, raisins and oats. Deep amber brown in color with nice lacing against the glass. Deep notes of cocoa, roasted coffee, toffee, brown sugar and a distinct woody/oak-like flavor. Very difficult to pinpoint this exact flavor but it really defines the character of this brew. Overall, this is an absolutely fantastic beer with intensely complex and unique flavoring all topped off with a strong alcohol filled finish. I’d give this an A+ rating.

Draft at Jerry’s. Amber with big, foamy, tan head / Sweet nose of burnt sugar, caramel, and dark fruit / Full body, sweet and rich, but with good hop balance, and finish / Flavors of brown sugar, caramel, dates, raisins, orange, grapefruit, oak, and a hint of bourbon / A beauty. Would be nice to try in a year.

Pours rich mahogany with thin cream head. Nose is rich with cinnamon, brown sugar and brine. Bursts into life on the tongue with rich brown bread and raisin on the lead moving into the ester-laden, ripen fruit finish of a fine abbey. The bourbon is subtle and unintrusive in this well-balanced beer.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 mikey (464) - farmington, Utah, USA - OCT 28, 2008
Pours a dark amber/orange with a thin cap of foam. The nose was a nice perfume of Bourbon, malt and vanilla. The taste started with hazelnut and sweet malt. Next comes smooth Bourbon with dark ripe fruits; raisin and fig. The finish had a rounded, well hidden boozy mix of whiskey and pine. Holy Shit! I was expecting a boozy, bourbon/malt bomb. What we got was was a nicely developed, seasoned, well aged ale. BBB was aged in Bourbon and Sherry barrels at a three-to-one ratio for two years. I’m sad. This will never be released for public consumption or competition(less the Stockholm Whiskey & Beer Fest). If you happen to get your hands on a bottle you’ve found a rare beautiful thing.
