COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character. Venture to pair with other spirited flavors such as those found in spicy ethnic foods.

Bottled. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and citrusy hops, leading to a bitter finish.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2013 750 ml bottle shared by Dan- I think. Thanks! Pours a clear amber color with a small bone white head. Aroma of caramel malts, floral hops, toast, wood, and a good deal of citrus and tropical fruits. Flavor of tea, leafy hops, citrus, earth, caramel malts, more tropical fruits, and just a hint of soap and minerals on the finish. Would have been nicer without those. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a fruity mouthfeel.

The Dan Journal #485. Tasted 6/28/11. 750ml cork and cage bottle. Filtered with a honey amber hue. Finger width of lacing, bone white head. Thereís a lot of citrus fruit in the olfactory. The typical grapefruit, but also lemon, apricot, apples, pears and honey. Super nose! Full bodied with a candy sweet, sticky, fruity palate. It hits the sweet, tart, tangy and bitter aspects with a good dose of alcohol, to boot. Good body and hoppy flavors with a sticky finish. Solid!

Bottle from Sun Devil Liquors in Mesa AZ. Pours a murky amber with a pale yellow beige head. Ale ester and faded hop aroma. Medium to full bodied with a nice earthy mouthfeel, likely unfiltered. Rich caramel and toffee malt backbone, with some faded hop bitterness. Probably past itís prime, but comes across as a cross between a IIPA and a light barleywine.

750 ml. Copper with a lasting spittle of foam. Luscious aromas of pineapple, molasses, praline, resin, citrus, and tea leaf. Medium body is oily smooth and has some alcohol burn. Flavor has same components as the nose, but the resin, tea leaf, and woody hop notes take the upper hand on the sweetness. Minty, herbal, and alcoholic finish detracts a bit; but still a great brew.

This DIPA will change what you may think about Utah. Not only did the aroma scream "take me home and tell me you love me," but the flavor followed up with "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!" Iíd never had a beer open up and be so honest with me. Huge hop, citrus aroma, combined with sweet fruit/malt profile. Taste provided unexpected strawberry and caramel notes. If you get the opportunity to take this seraph home, donít stutter! And for godís sake, take your time with her.

Modest white head on dark bronze beer. Aroma is beautifully hoppy: complex mix of grapefruit, pine, and herbs. Body is very syrupy; hardly any carbonation bite. Kind of slippery across the tongue. Flavor is sweetish and subdued overall. Lingering, intense hop bitterness on the finish: kind of a glue-like consistency. I expected a lot more hop punch, but itís not there. Sweet alcohol finish.

Bottle. A hazy orange-amber color with a white head. A strong pine aroma with hoppy peach flavors. A solid body, smooth but with a strong bitter finish.

Caged/corked. What a beauty ... towering foam atop a picture-perfect amber-colored beer. The aroma, too, is almost sexually charged -- full of nice, round piney resin. Beautifully balanced, this beer is sublime ... rich with woodsy hop character, yet easy to drink. The richness of this beer is artfully subdued, like a perfectly constructed beauty. Well done, Uinta!! This is why I became a beer geek. (#4145, 6/25/2011)
