Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character. Venture to pair with other spirited flavors such as those found in spicy ethnic foods.

Big bottle. Red red orange with thicker cloudy tan to white head. Aroma is floral pine and caramel with grapefruit and orange. Flavor follows with big funk nugs...Durben Poison for those who know... and grapefruit and orange but just that poison smell with that resiny sticky pine (stick it on your forehead). Starts clean sweet ends super long and bitter dry. BOOM

UPDATED: MAY 8, 2012 750 cc from Capone’s, one of the few PA procurers of the Uinta big beer series. This one pours hazy dark copper with 2f off-white head. Nose is resiny hops, hefty grapefruit and tangerine. Tastes of pineapple, mango, tangerine, with resiny hops, a bit hot late, but a definite tropical hop bomb. This went well with Tostitos and fire salsa.

Bottle. Head is initially average, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, cookie), moderately to heavily hoppy (resin, grapefruit, apricot), lightly yeasty (dough). Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium to full body, creamy/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Pretty straightforward and by-the-numbers, not much to say.

C&C 750 mL bottle from Whole Foods Market, Charlottesville, VA. Poirs a clear bronze color with a medium offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toffee with a good amount of citrus hops. Not too complex but balanced well enough. The taste is caramel, toffee, bitter hops with citrus and herbal notes. Medium bodied with a lingering hop bite. All the components are good but its just missing something. Decent beer.

750 ml bottle from Whole Foods DC. Brownish copper color, small solid off white head, solid delicate lacing. Aroma of pine and resin. Taste is hops, pure and simple. Bitter and straightforward. Exactly as advertised.

Serving: Bottle.
It pours a ruddy gold with a frothy white head. The nose is very hoppy with lots of herbals, a little mary jane, and overripe citrus notes. The flavor is sweet with those herbal hops really coming through. The alcohol is also noticeable in this one. The body is lighter than expected with a long, bitter finish. It’s a good, but not great IIPA that’s on the lighter side and a little simple.

Soapy orange peel aroma, not strong. Clear dark amber, thin yellow head. Orange and lime flavor. Orange peel finish. Solid DIPA, and not too heavy like others.
