COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character. Venture to pair with other spirited flavors such as those found in spicy ethnic foods.

This is one of the best beers of this sityle that I’ve ever had and, coincidently, from this brewery, another earth shaking beer. Poured with a large, foamy, frothy, cream colored head, that very slowly settles down, and some lace. Color is a crystal clear dark amber. Flavor is an incredibley well balance of bitter, sweet, & tang. Finish is like flavor and extremely drinkable.

A nice clear amber body with an off white head that faded away quickly. No lace either. Aroma had an assertive pine note to it with mild complements from grapefruit hops, caramel malts and a warming alcohol note. Flavor had good hop profile and just enough caramel malts to ease the bitterness. Alcohol was a pleasantly warming presence in the background. Mildly crisp and moderately dry in the finish.

Meh...a subpar IIPA and it takes a lot for me not to like this style. Aroma was fine. Nice and spicy hoppy with lots of grapefruit rind. Pour was a cloudy orange with a one finger off white head. Taste was where this beer fell short. In the front there is lots of grapefruit rind; very earthy. But mid swallow there is a nast dusty flavor that reallyh kills the beer. The finish was very thin and bitter and left much too quickly. The only thing left behind was that dirt flavor. Very odd. Light to moderate carbonation. Not terrible. Bought at Total Wine Sterling, VA

Bomber. A good Double India Pale Ale. Well balanced between the malts and hops. Thick and sticky with a srong caramel presense. Strong hop finish.

Pour is a deep orange color just short of mahogony with a light tan head. Nose is of hops hops and some other hops. Taste is very much lighter than what would expect from the nose, though it makes it very drinkable.

Bottle from Star Grocery, Berkeley. Pours Baltic amber with a nice off-white head and a fruit and toffee aroma. There is a harsh hoppy flavor over a sturdy caramel malt base with a dry bitter finish. The flavor is a bit disappointing, since the Crooked Line beers are normally quite tasty.

The smell is awful, I hate when IPAs have this sugary almost earthy scent. The flavor is better. It tastes like Double Wide which is like Pugsleys and what do all these amount to? They are all shitty over sweetened dipas in large format packaging.

I enjoyed this DIPA on draft at Galaxy Hut in Arlington, VA. This one of the few kegs that made it east from Utah. A: The color was about what I would expect from a typical ipa. Nice and bright orange with a decent creamy but thin head. S: I loved the noise on this one. Lots of great floral hop. This is one of the best smelling IPAs I have ever had. I’m guessing it had to do with the freshness but this literally smelled like pellet hops I use for home brewing. Maybe Amarillo, don’t quote me on that, T: Obviously very hoppy and a bit sweet. The abv is masked well but come to think of it everything is masked well as the hop overpowers everything. I get a bit of sweet malt on the finish. M: Nothing crazy here. Maybe a bit on the thick side but consistent with the style. D: The abv is masked fairly well its still there and doesn’t make this one sessionable. Also given the sweetness and the pallet destroying hops I would only be interested in one or two of these in one sitting. Overall: This is a great DIPA and Im glad I got a chance to have it fresh and on draft. Utah ? Who knew...

On bottle at Öl&Whiskymässan. Pours amber with low head. Aromas of citrusy fruits and malts. Lovely sweet and round palate with a bitterness all the way. Not to bitter ending which suits me. Very good double IPA.
