COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character. Venture to pair with other spirited flavors such as those found in spicy ethnic foods.

Big alcohol is hidden pretty well up front; slow burn in the back of the throat over time. Sweet malt base with lots of caramel and toasted bread. Hops are grassy, piney and grapefruity. Moderate, balanced bitterness. Earthy and herbal aromas. Solid brew.

Persimmon colored body was clear and lively, with a three finger thick head. Extra props for the classy caged and corked presentation, with a little informative cardboard foldout tied around the neck. The aroma was rich with pine straw and grapefruit smells from the hops. The taste was citric and quite bitter. There was not a whole lot of malt backbone here, and the sweetness was mostly comprised of simple sugars. Pretty sticky on the palette, and a long aftertaste with a pepper like spiciness. Not a beer to make me go wow, but a solid detour indeed.

UPDATED: JAN 5, 2013 Pours a beautiful golden amberwith a decent white head and some lacing. Has a bold hop smell but not over the top. The first sip is surprisingly smooth for a double but is just right for a 9.5. A little bit of the bitter hops perfectly balanced with honey and citrus. Really a great beer with perfect blending of hops.

Nice presentation in the corked champagne bottle with wire cage. Appearance reminds me of clover honey, translucent orange gold and high viscosity. Fluffy, impermanent off-white head of small creamy bubbles. Sticky lacing. Surprisingly mild, sweet aroma; not as hop-forward as I would have expected. Crazy smooth. How is a double IPA this balanced? Especially with four varieties of hops. Maybe I have burned off my taste buds with hops. Not boozy or syrupy, although I am feeling its effects halfway through. Really decent stuff. A classic IPA with twice the girth.

750 mL. bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a dark orange color with a thick, pillowy off-white head that lasts with nice lacing down the glass. Citrusy aroma that is a little dampened with some malt in the background. Medium bodied, taste is nicely balanced. The hops and malt work well together. Sweet malt in the middle of the tongue and bitter hops on the sides. Strong citrus hop taste. Bitter finish.Nicely done!!!

sampled on Christmas Day, mild inviting aroma, rich color, lingering aftertaste, not the best IPA for my preference, but it has solid flavor ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark golden color with solid foam. Classic hop profile, similar to their Hop Notch but a much stronger malt base due to the higher ABV.

On tap at The Yard House in Virginia Beach, VA. Dark orange pour with a creamy off-white head. Citrusy and floral hop aroma. The flavor is juicy tangerine with a light piney bitterness. Moderate detection of alcohol. Nice beer!
