Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character. Venture to pair with other spirited flavors such as those found in spicy ethnic foods.

Working in a beer and wine store, I see many people picking up these and "Hop Nosh"-es nonstop. I’ve never been a fan of Uinta, yet it’s been a while since I could recall exactly why. After having a few, I must admit their beers do look great. Slightly unfiltered, nice pillowy head. Nose of many typical IIPAs, thick gooey malt with prickly earthy hops beneath ripe tropical fruit. Flavor displays the same, however, as opposed to the deScription, I do not find it very dry at all. It is a rather sweet ale. It has the bright and scintillating pine notes and ripe syrupy fruits but...no cleanliness to cut through it. It feels incomplete. It ALMOST made my list of drain-beers, but something is keeping me sipping (albeit maybe not much) After having this and their Hop Nosh, I may have eased up on my judgement. I can see why people go for these. They are drinkable, good quality, a typical go-to. But if you’re looking for something different, something you’ve never tasted before, this may not be the first suggestion I would give. All in all, for me, it just needs a little flowery/rindy kick to it. And a notch or two down on the syrupy sweetness.

Nice aroma of hops...citrus....some cattiness. Deep orange color with a huge tan head. Rich sweet malt up front. Carmel. Bitterness cuts in nicely, then builds. Notes of orange, pine. Finish is bitter in a good way. Medium body with a long bitter finish an some alcohol burn. Nice beer.

The predominant aroma is floral. Pours an opaque deep amber. The head is frothy with leaving nice lacing as it dissipates. The ale is thick and full-bodied. The taste is initially sweet with a long lasting bitter finish. This ale is more barley wine that double IPA and certainly woth another taste.

Pours a finger and half of head on a hazy dark straw body. The aroma is dank grapefruit and lemon. The taste starts with lemon, grapefruit and pine bitterness, then a little malt sweetness and a touch of alcohol heat to finish. The texture is thicker. It’s a flavorful and big IPA.

Undated can drunk 9/6/15.
Amber-copper body is clear and topped by an off-white head that is dense yet small.
Melon, pine, grapefruit and very little in the way of lighter tropical fruits. Caramel and rich honey malts work against the heavy resin, while alcohol heat is notable immediately, especially so with warming.
Big, rich, bold, aggressive flavors show no nuance or elegance. Sharp alcohol and resinous hop flavors fight against sugary, dense malt sugars and the resulting mess is a win for no one. Sent this one to the drain after a few sips. No patience for these crass, aggressive, messy beers.

Bottle Pour is copper in color, Typical of a DIPA, head fades quickly but leaves good lacing behind. A burst of grapefruit greets you with accompanying hints of pine and orange. Just enough caramel to balance the hops. The slightly bitter finish is not a problem nor is the 9.5%abv, Both are balanced evenly. Overall a very good effort.
