Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character. Venture to pair with other spirited flavors such as those found in spicy ethnic foods.

Poured from the corked and caged bottle a reddish coppery color with a thick head of meringue. The nose is full-on citrus rind and juicy citrus fruit with big dose of pine resin. The taste starts with pine resin and citrus rind. Pineapple and tangerine come next transitioning into a "bit o’ honey" caramel maltiness. The hops and pale malt flavors carry through to a moderately bitter ending. The 9.5% alcohol is actually pretty well restrained. One of my favorite double IPAs.

Undated can drunk 9/6/15.
Amber-copper body is clear and topped by an off-white head that is dense yet small.
Melon, pine, grapefruit and very little in the way of lighter tropical fruits. Caramel and rich honey malts work against the heavy resin, while alcohol heat is notable immediately, especially so with warming.
Big, rich, bold, aggressive flavors show no nuance or elegance. Sharp alcohol and resinous hop flavors fight against sugary, dense malt sugars and the resulting mess is a win for no one. Sent this one to the drain after a few sips. No patience for these crass, aggressive, messy beers.

Bottle Pour is copper in color, Typical of a DIPA, head fades quickly but leaves good lacing behind. A burst of grapefruit greets you with accompanying hints of pine and orange. Just enough caramel to balance the hops. The slightly bitter finish is not a problem nor is the 9.5%abv, Both are balanced evenly. Overall a very good effort.

Wow. Aroma is tropical fruit, citrus, pine, dank, grass, pineapple. Copper with off white head with nice lacing. Taste mostly pine with some grapefruit peel but very smooth. Nice bitterness that’s balanced very well with malt backbone and alcohol. Very good ipa.

From a can Pours a hazy copper color with huge head. Aroma is fruity grapefruit and tangerines and pine hops. Taste follows the aroma with a amazing mouth feel and malt backbone. This beer is very good! And it comes in a can ;)

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2015 Keg at the Bishops Arms Savoy, Malmo, Day 2 of RBESG ’15 21/08/15. Lightly hazed orange amber with a decent off white covering. Nose is caramel malt, light spice, orange pith, bitter tropicana, grapefruit. Taste comprises caramel malt, bread dough, bitter orange, light white pepper, tangerine. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok but lower end for this style.

Appearance is a dark copper with half a finger of head. The head dissipates quickly but leaves some lacing behind on the glass. The nose is both piney and hoppy. The upfront flavor is a solid blend of malt and hops. The finish is not nearly as hoppy as top flight IPAs, but this still remains a solid effort. There is a touch of alcohol on the finish as well, but it is not too bad.

Pour is a dark red with a small white head. Aroma is caramel sweetness with citrus bitterness. Flavor is a decent hop but then that sweet caramel malt takes over. Finish is malt sweetness with a touch of bitterness. Another one of these double IPA’s where the malt far outpowers the hops. Probably better fresh but I’m rating the bottle I was given.
