Really nice sample pour of motor oil color with red head. Nose is roasted and mild licorice. Sweetish. Flavor is rich and caramel roasted malt. Enjoyable and smooth for 13 percent. Not a bad drink but a little heavy for me...

Poured at tasting. Fairly close to black with a mocca head and lace. Aroma was a wonderful chocolate, prune, licorice. The aroma seemed thick and begged to be savored itself. The taste was chocolate, a little coffee with the late sip and finish being licorice as the alcohol warmed. Oily and slick. This was fantastic.

It blacks out the light when you hold it up, with a balding head. Big fig dried fruit aromas. Sweet big fuzzy leather with a viscosity like motor oil. Big and boastful with no apologies.

Dark draft pour. Barrel aged flavor with chocolate, vanilla, and maybe a tiny bit of cherry. Very complex. Sweet finish. Very well hidden alcohol. Very smooth and drinkable. Loved it.

One of the nicest surprises of the Hunahpu fest...a surprise only in that I was surprised to see it! Absolutely fantastic brew...I savored the entire pour.

Pours black with no head. Swirling it leaves oily lacerations. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, booze, muscovado sugar, honey. Taste is muscovado sugar, coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, slight liqourice. Mouthfeel is oily and sticky with no carbonation. Aftertaste is muscovado sugar, honey, bourbon. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml corked and caged bottle, bottled on 1/23/13, a little over 13 months ago. Pours pitch black with a large dark tan head with great retention. Aroma is chocolaty, licorice, molasses, wood, coconut. Taste is sweet and savory with a strong licorice flavor. Mouthfeel is oily, body thick and chewy. A very nice and masterful beer, but I find myself steering away from these big dark heavy brews lately. A year or two ago, I would have given this a much higher score.

Bottle at THT. Pours pitch black. Aroma is coffee, grassy notes, some chocolate, bit licorice and roast. Taste is moderate sweet and quite bitter. Boozey, lots of alcohol in the finish along with coffee. Full bodied, oily texture and just lovely.

Bottle @ Dean to Mouth tasting, courtesy of Benzai. Pours a black beer with a small, brownish head on top. Aroma of roasted malts, bourbon and wood. Flavor is very sweet, cloying sweetness. Big alcoholic sweetness going on, but balanced a bit by some barrel characters. Round, well balanced beer. Lovely stuff.
