Impressed by this beer every time I have it. It both tastes great and hides the abv disarmingly well. Pours thick jet black with small brown head and minimal carbonation. It’s roasty, chocolaty, and has a little licorice but not too much for me. Hops are there, and complement this massive beer well. Definitely recommended.

Aroma of chocolate, anis and sweet malt. Pours black and thick with a nice dark head. Taste is roasty with sweet coffee, dark chocolate and hints of the licorice. Amazing stout!

750ml, corked & caged bottle, dated 6/10, from grape & gourmet. pours a deep, dark brown, almost black with a thin, bubbly, brown head and light lacing. aroma is very interesting, with big notes of black licorice, roasted malts, chocolate, and smokey peat with hints of dark fruits like plum skins, grapes, and black cherry with hints of oak, vanilla, and creamy coffee. flavor is excellent with the big, bittersweet notes of licorice and peat whiskey coming to the front ahead of big, toasted, pumpernickel malts, coffee, and caramel with hints of oak, burnt molasses, spice, and light dark fruits. palate is full bodied with a pleasant sweetness balanced by spice, peat, fruit with light carbonation and well integrated alcohol. overall, a damn tasty big brew from uinta.

Bottle @ Ales Unlimited: The aroma is of burnt sugar and spice. It pours like it’s a motor oil. The body is opaque; the head is small and tan, leaving minimal lacing and only a swirl like from a neatly prepared espresso; creamy, smooth mouthfeel -- it’s not thick, but right; overall, I thought this was spectacular. There’s notes of chocolate and of course that special holiday sweetness... Awesome, bittersweet brew with a well-hidden strength. I love the label -- only if David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly were on it ;o)
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Lukaduke (1004) - Portland, Maine, USA - NOV 4, 2012
Pours a deep umber black color with a couple fingers of mocha colored foam that fizzes and settles. Aromas of deep dark malts, coffee, chocolate and a touch of vanilla and licorice. On the palate it has nice mouthfeel with a touch of bubble to liven up the flavors and keep it from getting to sticky. Great chocolate notes mingle with fresh oak, vanilla and the slightest touch of herbal licorice flavor. Nice beer especially for the price.

Deep dark black pour. A wispy beige head caps it off nicely. Nose is heavy with licorice, dark malts, old coffee. This beer is thick and filling. A perfect sipping brew for the cold months. Hints of oak, molasses, syrup on the palate, but the licorice comes through with a bang. As does the booze. Wow. This is a beer to be split with friends. In no way could I polish off a bomber on my own. Not one I will revisit often, but a treat nonetheless.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 502F (1000) - ARLINGTON, Virginia, USA - FEB 20, 2011
750ml. Pitch black pour with a nice dense long lasting mocha head. Aroma and flavor are roasty with strong coffee quality. There is a hint of hops buried beneath the coating roasted burnt malt profile, as well as a very slight touch of soy, which is a negative in my books. Full bodied and smooth. The alcohol is definitely warming my stomach quite a bit, but isn’t as hugely present in the flavor as the abv might suggest. Overall: a tasty beer, but I would enjoy it more around 9 or 10 percent abv.
