First on tap at Mikkeller Bar in San Fran. Second time from a bomber purchased in San Diego. Poured from a bomber into a snifter glass very black with a thick tan had that dissipates into a nice lacing. Aroma of nice bittersweet chocolate, booze, caramel vanilla Nice balance of sweetness with malty wonder. A nice syrupy brew that is one I am happy to visit again & again.

With a medium-dark brown, almost orange-esque head, this black ale looks serious, roasted, strong, and requiring of your respect. The nose is roasted, yes, with heavy, syrupy sweetness that smells like it’s standing up to the roast. It tastes like an imperial stout, but with a twist. Fruity notes with sugar, and perhaps a whiff of heated corn sugar. Yes, it is serious. Yes, it is roasted, and beyond those strong characters it’s hard to detect much else (other than that fruity, sugary stuff). Cool.

Pours like motor oil with no head. Heavy porter with heavy flavor and a strong taste of licorice. Very sweet beer and a little boozy.

750 ml bottle from Premier Gourment. Pours a oily black with creamy brown head. Aroma is very roasty and full of rich dark fruits, cocoa, black licorice and some gentle woodiness. Flavour is huge and rich with lost of roastiness, big on the licorice, some prune/date and chocolate and a bit of oakiness. Slick mouthfeel. Very impressive.

Sampled at AC Beerfest 2014. Poured a pitch black color with a huge frothy dark mocha colored head. Aroma of rich caramel, dark chocolate, and dark roasted malts. Taste of dark fruit, rich dark chocolate, roasted malt, and caramel.

Really nice sample pour of motor oil color with red head. Nose is roasted and mild licorice. Sweetish. Flavor is rich and caramel roasted malt. Enjoyable and smooth for 13 percent. Not a bad drink but a little heavy for me...

Poured at tasting. Fairly close to black with a mocca head and lace. Aroma was a wonderful chocolate, prune, licorice. The aroma seemed thick and begged to be savored itself. The taste was chocolate, a little coffee with the late sip and finish being licorice as the alcohol warmed. Oily and slick. This was fantastic.

It blacks out the light when you hold it up, with a balding head. Big fig dried fruit aromas. Sweet big fuzzy leather with a viscosity like motor oil. Big and boastful with no apologies.

Dark draft pour. Barrel aged flavor with chocolate, vanilla, and maybe a tiny bit of cherry. Very complex. Sweet finish. Very well hidden alcohol. Very smooth and drinkable. Loved it.

One of the nicest surprises of the Hunahpu fest...a surprise only in that I was surprised to see it! Absolutely fantastic brew...I savored the entire pour.
