3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Pours a clear very dark brown body with a small Duffy dark brown head that retained as a thin film. The nose is rich and roasty with some chocolate, coffee, and licorice. A light bit of alcohol, but pretty minimal. The flavor is sweet and licorice laced with a chocolaty finish and some light roast. A slight kick of alcohol on the finish, but the sweetness really mutes it. Medium bodied and slightly sticky from the residual sweetness, soft gentle carbonation. Pretty solid Baltic Porter. One of the better beers in the Crooked Line series.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle from Dutch’s. Pours a dark brown to black color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have soy, an almost briny note, roasted malt, ash, powdery chocolate, dark fruit and only a mild kick from thebbarrel. I almost forgot that it was barrel aged. Good, but not great.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle:   Black, moderate to large foamy dark beige head, nice lacing.   Sweet soy on the nose.   On the tongue its a soft sweet roastiness, slightly dry and chalky, with a sweet soy like background.   Little
bitterness, but also not much dark pitted fruit like I normally associate with the style.   Body and mouthfeel are smooth albeit moderate.   Quick finish, slightly ashy, roasty, but not all that sweet any more.   This one is
not as thick, sweet, or fruity as others.   If I were to have this blind I would be confused as to what it was.   Tiz okay, but not as good as I was hoping.   Ashy finish, soft roasted malts, and very soft cocoa or bakers
chocolate.   Meh... says its aged on Bourbon, I get ZERO of that.   ZZZZZzzzzz.....

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
November 2012 bottle. Pours deep, nearly black brown, slight tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is surprisingly grainy, but that doesn’t carry over to the taste. The taste is very smooth chocolate, light espresso, some cereal, oak, vanilla, bourbon. Light hoppiness. Dry and crisp finish, which is excellent. Real good and easy drinking.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
750ml c&c bottle from Canal’s EHT. Poured a deep black body with an average sized beige foamy head. Aroma is okay, sort of dusty, notes of vanilla beans, dry chocolate powder, some chocolate swyrup, wet dark toast, burnt malts, wood and some bourbon. Palate is okay, foamy body with a medium mouthfeel. Flavor of dry chocolate, light vanilla, some wood, hint of bourbon, dry dark toast. Overall meh, expected more from Crooked Line series.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2013 Vanilla and bourbon greet the nose, with chocolate and fruit notes . Pours a healthy black with a mostly diminishing khaki head and clinging lacing. The taste is more roasted than sweet. Roasted malts flavors, vanilla, and bourbon with hints of nuts and cherries. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel. Overall, enjoyable - not as sweet as some other Baltic porters that I’ve tried. While there was a pleasurable round mouthfeel, I would have liked to have had fuller body also.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml from Sam’s, Durham. Deep discount, baby! Dark brown, thick like a liquefied Tootsie Roll. Medium silky head, modest carbonation. Nose is sharp, with booze and molasses complementing base chocolate notes. Is this even lagered? Not sure, but it’s a pretty tasty imperial porter tilted towards the bitter end of the spectrum but with slight milk chocolate, caramel, and dark fruit.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 ml corked and caged bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a darker brown to black with a grayish head of foam. Decent retention. Aroma is a musky, coffee, earthy sweetness. A little ashy. Taste is more of the same. Paired nicely with a cigar that was a little past its prime.
