COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Complex and drinkable, Sea Legs delivers flavors of roasted malt and chocolate. Sea Legs was aged in Bourbon Barrels for nearly 12 months adding toasted vanilla and bourbon notes to the flavor profile. This Medium-bodied Baltic Porter has a complex malt profile and mild hop bitterness. With a hidden ABV of 8%, Sea Legs is a siren of a beer.

Really disappointed by this one...pretty damn boring despite the bourbon-barrel aging. You would think that 12 months would impart a hint of oak, at least a pinch of vanilla, hell even some heat. Nothin’. Subtle cocoa, roasted coffee, and malt. Yep, that’s it. These guys have produced some decent beers in the past. What happened?

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured into a brandy snifter. Pours a darker brown to black with a grayish head of foam. Decent retention. Aroma is a musky, coffee, earthy sweetness. A little ashy. Taste is more of the same. Paired nicely with a cigar that was a little past its prime.

750 corked and caged bottle. Bottled on11/21/12. Pours a thick, tiny bubbled, well retained light beige head, with some lacing, over a black (SRM 40) body.....nose is coffee, lighter chocolate, cocoa, hints of Bourbon, slightest hints of vanilla.....taste is a slightly sweet brown sugar/molasses, with very light dried fruits including plum, raisin, light coffee, cocoa, light Bourbon, hints of vanilla, finishing with a mild bitterness....mouth feel medium, slightly sticky, lightly astringent, alcohol hidden, carbonation low. This is a nicely balanced beer, and in addition, the Bourbon, has been used with a relatively light hand. adding complexity without dominance. It is a bit on the dry side for a Baltic, and the dried fruit character of the malt backbone is light. The dominant aromas and flavors are of the more heavily roasted malts. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

1 feb 2013, bottle. Black with thick foamy head. Nose is toasted malt and slightly acidic. Med body and mildly fizzy. Toasted malt, some mild alcohol, maybe blue cheese hints, maybe oatmeal. No real bourbon barrel notes that you expect. Just decent n ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml bottle from Proof (I think). Black-brown pour with a big foamy tan head and strong retention. Aroma is dusty, mineral, cocoa. Tastes are roasty, nuts, vanilla, cherry, light licorice, chocolate, dark fruit, rye, earthy, little woody. Very nice.

Poured from 750ml bottle. Black with tiny ring of brown head. A rich cocoa and malty flavor. Roasty and toasty taste. Mouthful indeed. Good porter

Almost-opaque black. Persistent mocha froth holds beautifully. Very sweet nose of wort, paint, soy sauce, cola, lactose, overripe plums, and stewed black cherries. Suggestive butter toffee, vanilla taffy, coconut, and licorice. Some vegetal notes poking through, as well. Snug but fuzzy carbonation. Initially tangy with metallic malt coupling with overripe plum sweetness and cooked tomatoes. Quite worty, and severely dull, consequently, as soggy, day-old breakfast cereal blends with flabby sugars to render any vivid malt remnants utterly lifeless. Worty to the point of resembling dog food, as well. Medicinal effect is apparent from the combination of higher alcohols and pervasive overripe dark fruits. Dusting of tannins gently brush the tongue, but quickly give way to a scorched wood and stale coffee grounds huskiness. Severely muddled, throughout. Finishes perpetually sugar-laden and unfinished, with a profound absence of malt definition and sturdiness of structure. A clear miss for Uinta, as this is quite the sugar and soy sauce bomb, with a host of other flaws piled on for good measure. Almost too undrinkable to analyze. A rather foul concoction.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 11/21/2012. Pours pitch black color with a 2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big milk chocolate, caramel, toffee, cocoa, roasted malt, toast, vanilla, oak, bourbon, light coffee, and roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roasted and dark malt notes with moderate barrel presence; and good strength. Taste of milk chocolate, toast, caramel, toffee, cocoa, roasted malt, oak, clove, vanilla, bourbon, light coffee, and roasted earthiness. Slight roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of milk chocolate, caramel, toast, toffee, cocoa, roasted malt, vanilla, oak, clove, bourbon, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark and roasted malt flavors with barrel presence; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, smooth, and slightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barrel aged Baltic porter. All around nice balance, complexity, and robustness of dark and roasted malt flavors with moderate barrel presence; and very smooth to sip on for 8%. A very enjoyable offering.

A really solid Baltic porter. Not a big wow factor and I didn’t get the bourbon or vanilla notes at all but tasted quite good. Poured a jet black with a bit of a roasted aroma to it. Very smooth on the palate
