On tap @ Public House in Vegas. Very dark brown with mahogany highlights. Meaty broth malty nose with seductive bourbon sweetness. The palate opens sweeter than expected, given the nose: vanilla, light smoke, sweet figs, molasses, bread crusts. Made me pay attention in a good way! Awesome!

Draft at Keystone - Clifton. Pours a deep coffee brown with a finger of tan head that leaves heavy spots of lace. Aroma of milk chocolate, dust, oak, vanilla, fudge, and toast. Some booze as it warms. Flavor of chocolate, leaves, vanilla, earth, oak, roast, and booze thatís not clearly defined as bourbon. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a dry mouthfeel. Very subtle bourbon barrel influence.

Bottle:   Black, moderate to large foamy dark beige head, nice lacing.   Sweet soy on the nose.   On the tongue its a soft sweet roastiness, slightly dry and chalky, with a sweet soy like background.   Little bitterness, but also not much dark pitted fruit like I normally associate with the style.   Body and mouthfeel are smooth albeit moderate.   Quick finish, slightly ashy, roasty, but not all that sweet any more.   This one is not as thick, sweet, or fruity as others.   If I were to have this blind I would be confused as to what it was.   Tiz okay, but not as good as I was hoping.   Ashy finish, soft roasted malts, and very soft cocoa or bakers chocolate.   Meh... says its aged on Bourbon, I get ZERO of that.   ZZZZZzzzzz.....

Ernest (6143) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 3, 2013
Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, brown, mostly lasting. Body is black. Aroma is moderately malty (horse feed, wort, cereal, caramel, chocolate syrup), with a note of vanilla. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, slightly unclean, slightly husky. Medium to full body, creamy/syrupy texture, soft carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Really hard to get past the terrible malt...very raw/worty/vegetal. There are some nice elements behind that struggling for your attention, but they canít compete. Almost drinkable in the mouth, but again the aftertaste reminds you of the dirty/clunky malt. A nice idea, but poorly executed.

Scopey (6140) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 24, 2014
Bottle at Bruceís. It pours near black with a tiny tan head. The nose is fresh piney, toast, citrus peel, pine needles, soap and cocoa. The taste is bitter-sweet, toasty, earth, coffee, citrus peel, soap, pine and varnish. Medium and fine carbonation. Solid enough, but not a game changer.

750, corked and baled. Starting to think this whole series will be consistently great to amazing. Pours black with a sudsy dark tan head and plenty of webby lace. Big sweet chocolate and vanilla nose. Creamy medium body with very soft carb, goes a little watery in spots actually. Chocolate, vanilla, light bourbon, very soft woody notes in the background. Really a nice BP.

arminjewell (5993) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JAN 22, 2013
Pour out of 750 mL bottle, cork opened with a pop. Thick black pour with creamy tan, aroma brought notes of nice cocoa powder, vanilla, bourbon, and lots of oak come through, some coffee, roast, hints of slight caramel, toffee, and molasses, hints of dark fruits, and some slight smoke but pretty restrained. Taste is a mix of sweet caramel, toffee, lots of dark fruits and anise, hints of roast, slight bourbon, lots of dry oak, there is a slight smoke note in there that manifests as it opens up, finishing fairly sweet, slightly bitter. Interesting brew, one of the better in the series for sure.
