Dark pour with a great tan head. Loaded with a big chocolate nose with a background of cherries and dark fruits. Full creamy palate. Intense roasted malts mixed with bitter chocolate. Bourbon far in the background. A mellow sweetness with full developed flavors. Very enjoyable.

Draft @ The Ale House in Amesbury. Pitch black with lasting tan head that laced the tulip until finish. Aroma is chocolate, oak and light coffee. Taste is chocolate, vanilla and mild espresso notes. The oak is very light and subtle in this brew. Hints of molasses and sugar. Some burnt malts. Body is more on the full side with a drier smooth semi-sweet finish. It’s really good. Just falls short of being great. Well worth a try if you ask me. I would order this again in certain circumstances.

750ml bottle from Imbibe Wine. Nose is chocolate, vanilla, with hints of roast, bourbon, and coconut. Black with a big, heavy lacing beige head. Flavor is peppery, light bitterness and sweetness, with a very light bit of bourbon. Good but not great as the barrel characteristics are not very pronounced.

750 ml corked and caged bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting creamy brown head. Aromas of graininess, bakers cocoa, oak, light prune and light anise. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of graininess, earthiness, cocoa and light oak with a smooth lingering woody cocoa finish.

On tap 5 oz. taster at Escondido Ale House in Escondido, CA. Opaque, brown-black with a khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla, oak, leather, figs, anise and chocolate. Taste of roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, citrus, anise, chocolate, vanilla and oak. Very full body and low carbonization. Richer and hoppier than a typical Baltic porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From tap it was a dark pour with about a half inch of tan head. Vanilla, malt, and slight chocolate aroma. Little vanilla taste but plenty of malt. Mild bouron taste from the middle to end.

bottle at Ft Wayne tasting Sep 14, 2013 - Pours very dark brown and has an aroma of dark roast malt, coffee, and chocolate. It tastes of smoky, dark roast malt with chocolate. The palate is smooth and full bodied. Some roasty bitterness lingers in the finish. Almost 12 months on bourbon? I’m surprised. I couldn’t really taste bourbon. Good beer though...
