On tap 5 oz. taster at Escondido Ale House in Escondido, CA. Opaque, brown-black with a khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, vanilla, oak, leather, figs, anise and chocolate. Taste of roasted malt, molasses, chocolate, citrus, anise, chocolate, vanilla and oak. Very full body and low carbonization. Richer and hoppier than a typical Baltic porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From tap it was a dark pour with about a half inch of tan head. Vanilla, malt, and slight chocolate aroma. Little vanilla taste but plenty of malt. Mild bouron taste from the middle to end.

bottle at Ft Wayne tasting Sep 14, 2013 - Pours very dark brown and has an aroma of dark roast malt, coffee, and chocolate. It tastes of smoky, dark roast malt with chocolate. The palate is smooth and full bodied. Some roasty bitterness lingers in the finish. Almost 12 months on bourbon? Iím surprised. I couldnít really taste bourbon. Good beer though...

Good, but not amazing. Didnít know this was supposed to be bourbon barrel aged until I read it in the description just now. A year in a barrel does not come through in the nose or the taste. Good winter beer, to be sure. I has this at Saratoga beer week as a tasting tray at an Irish bar, and they served these in 5oz plastic cups, which was not ideal for my tasting experience

Bottle from Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours near black with a massive tan head and a treacle aroma. There is a dark molasses and bitter chocolate flavor with some anise and a dry finish.

Bottle. Black with a thick creamy tan head. Sweet, earthy, and somewhat musty aroma of chocolate, vanilla, and cereal grain; the aroma becomes increasingly phenolic as it warms. Velvety medium bodied palate. Taste of sweet milk chocolate, vanilla, and cereal grain with some notes of plastic and a lightly bitter, slightly oaky finish. Disappointingly, Iím not getting any bourbon out of this one.

1 feb 2013, bottle. Black with thick foamy head. Nose is toasted malt and slightly acidic. Med body and mildly fizzy. Toasted malt, some mild alcohol, maybe blue cheese hints, maybe oatmeal. No real bourbon barrel notes that you expect. Just decent n ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
