3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a bright yellow gold color with a pillow of head that dissipated to a solid but thin cap. The nose is of lemon, grass, herbs and crisp crackery malts. Sweetness hits the tongue up front with some zesty lemon followed herbs and lightly grassy bitterness. The sips ends with some spicy and zesty bitterness that leaves the mouth watering and with a slightly lingering bitterness. The 9.0% abv is well hidden. This one could be trouble if your not careful.
This is a very good impy pilsner. I like the hoppy character but could use a bit more of it.

A mixture of good and bad elements. Good: slick, syrupy body, nice alcohol warmth on the finish, Bad: Overly cereal grain aroma and taste. See Lagunitas Scare City fro a good imperial pils.

Not too shabby. A little darker, thicker, and sweeter than expected, with a heavy grain presence and a slightly lighter than expected grassy hop bite. Good beer, not a good deal."

On tap, pours a very nice golden yellow, with thin tight head and nice lacing. Nose is hops, malt, mild bread yeast. Crisp bright light taste, malts and yeast mildly balanced with a nice bitter hop bite. quick clean finish.

Transfer from BA review on 2-24-13-
Poured from 750 ml bottle into a fluted glass
Appearance- The beer pours an orange amber color with a big and billowy just-off white head. The head has a fantastic level of retention, very slowly fading to leave a nice level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- The aroma is big on malty aromas with a lot of pilsner malt smells. Mixed with this aroma is a yeasty and haylike aroma as well. Some lighter notes of light fruit (apple, pear, and peach) are also there with a rather strong melon aroma. The melon smell is a strange one, being a mix of honeydew and casaba melon with some almost fermented melon smells mixed within.
Taste- The taste begins with a sweet melon and caramel and a very malty body. Some flavors of other fruits enter the tongue quickly with apple being the strongest, but mixed with some tangerine and peach. A haylike and funky flavor come to the tongue more toward the middle where they knock down the sweeter flavors. At the end some flavors of alcohol and more haylike ad grassy flavors come to the tongue with an increase in the sweetness with more melon tastes. In the end, all the flavors mix to leave a funky and fruity malted flavor on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - The body of the beer is on the chewier and thicker side with a carbonation level that is average to just above average. The chewiness is very nice for the malty flavors of the brew as well as oddly quite complimenting of the melon flavors of the brew. The carbonation does a good job of keeping the beer quite easy drinking, yet not overshadowing or hiding any of the interesting flavors of the brew.
Overall- This was a rather interesting brew. The aroma with its fermenting melon smells was slightly off putting, but not totally so (somewhat intriguing). Its taste was rather unique with a fascinating mixture of flavors and transitions. I kind of liked the odd flavor profile and while it is not something I would go frequently, it is worth a try and a time to time go to.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Betton - cage corked 750 ml bottle. Slightly hazy dark golden with a nice thick, sticky off-white head with a nice film of lacing. Aroma has some buttery and vanilla notes, a hint of yeast. Full bodied flavor with some nice raw cake mix accents, a bit of honey sweetness, some buttery notes. Nice full mouthfeel. Put off buying this as I figured I would come across it on tap on my trip to Utah - no such luck.

Bottled two years ago, but stored in a dark 68 degree area for 18 months or so it’s been in my possession. I mention this because on one hand I think this beer might have turned a bit, but reading through the reviews, plenty of them mention an overly sweet taste, and mine is almost syrupy. Smells faintly of citrus, but also rusty water. Plenty of carbonation and lace left, though, so maybe this is just far more sweet and sticky than I prefer.
