The Cutthroat Trout is the state fish of Utah and believed to be named after Cutthroat Pale Ale, Utah’s most popular craft brewed beer. (Ok, it is the other way around.) Uinta’s flagship beer, Cutthroat Pale Ale is a traditional Northwest American Style Pale Ale. The Cutthroat trout is a species of freshwater fish native to western North America, and more specifically to the Great Basin and Rocky Mountain regions. The Bonneville Cutthroat trout is a subspecies, native to Utah and named after Lake Bonneville, a prehistoric pluvial lake that covered much of present day Utah. The Great Salt Lake and Utah Lake are two remnants of Lake Bonneville. Today, Cutthroat trout is the game fish of the west and Cutthroat Pale Ale the catch of the day!

appearance: slightly hazy, medium brown, frothy, bubbly white head, good lacing. aroma: some caramel and graham cracker, light grassy, floral hops. taste: caramel malty, toasty sweetness, some grapefruit and floral, grassy hops. finish: dry hop notes against the malty backbone, slightly watered down seemingly. notes: This is an ok pale ale. Just ok. Essentially an exact parallel to this brewery’s entire lineup, barring the outstanding Baba Black Lager.

On tap @ Uinta. Clear amber colored beer with some white foam. There’s a lot of caramel and bready malts to this. Somewhat estery and fruity, it seems. A bit of a grassy hop character, too. Some light citrus, minimal bitterness, and a lot of sweet malts all the way through. Not really my kind of pale ale.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2015 It has an IBU rating of 34 I thought it would have been much higher. It was to bitter, with a strong hoppy flavor not for me. Didn’t really care for this one the first time I tried it, But had one the other night on tap at the bowling alley and it was good didn’t seem as overly hoppy and bitter like I remembered. Good beer.

Rich amber/copper color; Light to medium slight creamy body; Aroma of caramel malt, hops, & some citrus; Flavor of slight sweet malt, citrus hops, and caramel; Finish is slightly bitter; Fairly well balanced; Overall, considering the alcohol it’s decent.

Very little aroma from this slightly cloudy medium yellow/amber body with a nice white head. Taste is more like an amber ale than a pale ale with a good roasted malt flavor and some light buttery caramel sweetness. Hops are earthy and pungent and appropriately strong for the flavor. Body is a bit watery but not terribly. Ends with a woody, slightly bitter taste that lingers and is very tasty. A very nice beer overall.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, clear golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of grass, bread, biscuit into a bit of yeast, hints of slight dough into a bit of grain. Taste was a mix of grass, grain, some earth into a bit of biscuit, bread, some yeast, finishing fairly dry, slightly bitter. Not really much flavor, but relatively refreshing after driving for 7 hours.

Bottle in Springdale UT.

Nose is a pretty straight SN pale ale clone, flavor follows but dialed back a bit as befits the 4% ABV. Easy drinking and quite tasty with a nice hop snap that doesn’t leave one with a mouth of hop pellet afterward. Solid.

Aroma is light caramel and a hint of citrus hops. Appearanc eis hazy copper with tiny off white head. Taste is light caramel and hop bitterness. Minerally water flavor and a hint of citrus aroma hopping. Palate is medium light and crisp. Overall this beer is pretty boring. Nothing really stands out. Drinkable I guess.

Toasted malts and floral hops. A little citrus bite. Amber pour frothy head. Flavors of toasted grains and floral hops with a citrus bite. Fairly basic and boring but clean and well executed.
