tap at McStiff’s - This brew has a pleasant citrus hop aroma. It’s moderately hopped with citrus and caramel character. This medium bodied brew with some lingering bitterness in the finish is, IMO, better than the Wyld EPA I had right before it.

Initial spiced bread and hops, earthy caramel background. Clear dark amber color. Bittersweet bread flavor. Some toasty barley. Crisp start, soft papery finish. Too dark to be a pale ale. Beer of choice for the slopes.

Bottle from whole foods SLC. Pours brown with a thin khaki head. Leaves a lot of lacing. Not much of the nose. Very malty on the tongue. Finishes clean. Prefer my Pale Ales brewed to style.

Serving: from tap at Centro Woodfired Pizzeria.
Aroma: none detected.
Appearance: average-sized, frothy, off-white, initial head with good lacing and fully diminishing longevity. Clear, medium-amber body.
Taste: lightly bitter, moderate cat piss-like hoppy initial flavor and lightly bitter finish with average duration.
Palate: medium body with watery texture and soft carbonation.
Overall: very good. Unique flavor.

This beer is not a notable example of an American Pale Ale; however it hits English Best Bitter on the head starting with its burnt sugar aroma to its toffee malt flavor balanced with a nice clean hop note. Finishes semi-sweet.

12oz bottle. Best before 5/16/13... Mostly clear darker amber orange color. Nice thin off white head, leaves good lace. Medium body. Smooth, lighter carbonation, more dry finish. Nice malt profile - good amount of caramel malt, some toasty, biscuity malt. Light spicy malt / hop. Little earthy hop, but this is much more malt forward, thankfully the malt profile is pretty interesting. Light to moderate sweet taste, moderate bitter, light spiciness. Pretty solid pale ale, especially considering how unfresh it is, and the light ABV. The complex malt profile carries it.
