COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Detour blazes the trail for fresh and bold Double IPAs. Four varieties of hops combine to step up the flavor profile. A hoppy adventure that finishes dry. Big in alcohol and character. Venture to pair with other spirited flavors such as those found in spicy ethnic foods.

12oz can from CBC. Best before 10/20/16. Pours copper brown with a big light beige head. Aroma is grass, floral, grapefruit. Flavor is caramel, a touch of molasses, grass and grapefruit. A bit malt heavy, but that’s not surprising at 9.5%.

2015 BJCP Category: 22A Double IPA

AROMA: Sweet guava/passionfruit concentrate. Pine. Clean malty malty sweetness. 10/12

APPEARANCE: Burnt umber; body is dark but mostly clear (no sediment). Small, tan, foam. 2/3

FLAVOR: Intense maltiness right away. Caramel/honey flavors are prominent. A gentle dank bitterness in the background never really crests or bites and seems much less than the advertised 96 IBUs. Finishes with a juicy sensation plus some alcohol, which is nice. 15/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium+ body with fairly low CO2. Mouthfeel is noticeably thick, slightly syrupy texture. Alcohol imparts warmth, but is not hot. Lingering bitterness and slight malty cloying. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: A fine DIPA with enjoyable flavors, but this is a borderline barleywine or strong ale considering how sweet it is. 7/10

TOTAL SCORE: 37/50

Nice big pine aroma, pours a hazy amber with a white head. The flavor starts with a slight hint of tropical fruit, then layers in some caramel sweetness, then finishes with more tropical fruit and candied bitterness. Moderate body with a slightly slick mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very solid IIPA, especially at the price point.

Draft pour at collective, hop aroma, little boozy flavor, but still crisp and refreshing, nice balance of flavor hops and bite.

Pours a honey gold with a slight white head.....aroma is pine, fruit, hop oil.....taste is thick, dirt, earthy, heavily bittered in the middle, tails off into dankness with an aftertaste of wood branches...different but not necessarily better.

I like the shape of these bottles, they pour nicely. Brownish orange sparkling hazy looking stuff. Rather neutral aroma on a slightly stuffy nose. Taste is big giagantica thick bitter nasty rotoller. Warming greasy alky blast all round. Forget about anything but the taste of this for the next 5 minutes. Throws you on your back just when you figger out yer gittin a half nelson, heheh. One rude ass beer mahfah. Not impressed, simply over the top, down the hatch and over teh side of the table.

Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: 12 ounce can. Appearance: Clean orange amber body with 1-2 finger khaki head. Aroma: floral and bright citrus smell. Taste: very malt forward and syrupy, pine and resin up front then lots of sweet malt notes, finishes with a slightly grapefruit forward bitterness. Palate: Medium, dry, semi-citrus peel finish. Overall: Pretty good all around.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a semi-dark burnt orange to brown color with a one finger white foamy head that quickly dissipated. Messy light lacing all over the place. The smell starts off with a sharp citrus to piney hops moving into subtle crisp spicy tones over a caramel malt backbone. Nicely balanced. The taste took in all of those flavors. Caramel malt seemed a bit more pronounced. Semi-dry sticky citrus / piney to sticky caramel malt aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation runs fairly smooth. Malts and spices balance to hit my tongue. Overall, this one seemed to be very well balanced. I’d have again.
